What is the texture of this food? Is it pate style or chunks in a sauce? Are all of the flavors grain free?

Almost all Tiki cat food is grain free, that is why I buy it. There is some rice in the King Kamehameha Luau variety pack( less expensive variety pack of two variety pack offered), which I buy some of as rice is easy on the tummy, but contains no other grains as corn or wheat! I mainly buy the Queen Emma Luau variety pack which is grain free, only meat and vitamins for my cat. The texture depends on the flavor. It's not quite pate, more like small pieces of salmon or mackerel in a small amount of sauce which is like an aspic in many cases. The tuna is more like a "pate'" in that the pices are very small and the liquid is very small. My cat usually prefers pate type food to chunks and he loves Tiki. Tiki is not like most foods and because of it's quality and palatability, it is the only food I feed my cat now. The pieces are small and smell delicious. So my finicky cat loves them! He's high maintenance and will stick up his noise at Weruva, Instinct etc. He also has skin allergies that necessitate high quality food. Tiki fits the bill for him, he like the more expensive Queen Emma Luau variety pack the very best and then the less expensive King Kamehameha Luau (contains rice in some of the variety) and he loves the wild salmon in the small size, the larger size has too much liquid. He is beautiful with a full, shiny coat and extreme energy! Give him generic cat food or treats and its skin allergies for him, so I love Tiki, it's reasonably priced, made in a factory under human food controls and smells yummy! What's not to like, try it!!!! Most of the Tiki foods are carbohydrate free too if that is important to your cat.

is there any indigestible matters in this food? if so, can you list them?

I don't know if there's anything indigestible, thought that would probably be available on the label. However, I will say that my cat vomits frequently to an irritable bowel disease, and after switching to this food, it has improved. Also, it looks like and I think is, real chicken that's shredded, like human food! My cat loves it.

What are the dark / black specks in the food? They have the appearance of ground peppercorns. Mold?

I've noticed this too in the most recent batch purchased. I contacted the manufacturer who had gotten calls from about 4 people reporting the same issue. They were investigating at the time (this was about April 10, 2015) but suspected it was from a change they'd just made in their nutrient formula (meaning the vitamins/minerals that are added to the chicken). They'd left me a voicemail (very responsive customer service) with this information and said they'd call back in a few days when they finished the investigation but I haven't heard back and haven't yet followed up with them. My two cats (12 pound, 5yr old male and 8 pound, 1.5 yr old female) have continued to eat the food with the black dots (for about 2 weeks now) and have had no adverse reactions.

What kind of mackerel and tuna are in the food? Different types have different levels of mercury in them.

I have probably purchased this at least 20 times. I love the size of the containers. I feed six cats and I can easily split each can into 3rds for one if their daily meals. I love the variety, especially with picky cats where some like one flavor and some like the other. Some might think it's expensive, but, doing the math on it in terms of how many meals you can get out of one can, it's perfect. I also like the quality. Big chunks of fish can be seen in the can so you know what you paid for. No surprises in terms of what your kitties might be eating. Great product.

I love Tiki Cat, but it is so expensive. My fat baby lost 7lbs eating Tiki Cat and my picky baby will actually eat most of the flavors. It's high quality food with better ingredients than most other brands and its made with real fish and chicken. The meat is in a shredded or minced texture. They also use broth for moisture instead of gravy, which is better for the cats and way less calories. My cats have never experienced any vomiting or diarrhea from this food.

I decided to try this variety pack to see how my cat would react. Well he hates all "Chicken" flavors. But he did love all of the seafood flavors...except .. Salmon and Chicken. All cans smelled good, so i do not think it was the food. Food arrive well packed and in good condition. Just be aware if you have a cat who hates chicken as much as mine, 2 of the 6 flavors have chicken. I do want to say that he ate all seafood flavors without hesitation. I will be trying other Tiki cat foods but only seafood flavors for my big boy. I would recommend Tiki Cat food to others.
