However, even with the inordinate amount of rum drinks I imbibe, I couldn't justifying purchasing an Opal pebble ice maker (and didn't want the inevitable headaches from the cheaper varieties) and don't have any fast food sources like Sonic nearby to provide the needed style of ice. These ice cube trays solved that dilemma entirely. It's not technically "pebble ice" but rather mini cubes, however they dilute very similarly and look beautiful in glassware. The trays are a sturdy plastic -- unlike a lot of silicone trays that are correctly maligned online -- and can be stacked fairly easily if freezer space is tight (though it will take the lower trays longer to freeze if stacked). Four trays will yield enough ice for 3-5 drinks, depending on volume, which is on the low side, but it's not too hard to plan ahead a few days to stockpile/bag the ice so there's always reserves.
