TopTes TS-710 Light Meter First Impressions
I received the TopTes TS-710 Light Meter yesterday and unboxed this morning. It comes with Operation Manual and a Protective Cover for Sensor. The buttons were fairly intuitive so I switched to Lux to test it out. The back-lighting is also nice and I like the rotating sensor. I placed my phone with Light Sensor App next to this dedicated sensor and pointed in same direction. My phone light sensor would jump around while the TopTes settled into a reading. I then tested a couple LED bulbs with the TopTes and it worked great. My ultimate test is to measure my LED lights strung around my pool enclosure because neighbor complained so I put them on a Dimmer but want to obtain some Foot-Candle Measurements. Update: I've measured the Foot-Candles at my Property boundary (next to my Neighbor) and it measured 0.3 Foot-Candles with No LED Dimming and 0.1 Foot-Candles with LED Dimmer set to 50%. The Florida Statutes aren't very clear in this area but I did see mention of 0.2 Foot-Candles maximum at the Property boundary so I'm now compliant and will leave my Dimmer set to 50%. I also used the TopTest TS-710 Light Meter to gauge the Lumens for each 1 Watt LED bulb; at full intensity (no Dimming), they were spec'ed at 80 Lumens. I measured 82 Lux (Lumens) straight out but this fell off going towards top and bottom of bulbs. Hence, the actual Luminosity of these 1W LED Bulbs is probably more on the order of 40-60 Lumens (a measure of total light emitted in a sphere around the bulb). Great Light Meter and very pleased.

Good all purpose
I simply use it for my plants and frogs. Easy to use and i take it with me to compare lighting conditions. Rotating made things easier

Takes the guesswork out of where to place my orchids as the sun moves
Works just fine. Nice compact size. Easy, intuitive to use. Too bad it is straight perpendicular and does not tilt. Name-brand batteries included.

Love it
I like this light meter a lot. I love that the head swivels (and is attached), so you can operate it one-handed. It also automatically selects the range for you, which is super nice (my old one didn't do this, it was very annoying). Readings are pretty consistent, which is good. It seems to sample accurately, angle-wise; if you point it at a point light in a dark room, and rotate it, the reading is pretty much proportional to the cosine of the angle between it and the light. And the readings seem accurate enough. It's within ~4% of my old lux meter (this new one reads a bit lower), but who knows which one is more accurate. The actual numbers do feel accurate, but for a human to judge this kind of thing is very hard. Note that it does turn itself off after a few minutes of inactivity (which I like -- I don't want it to drain the battery if I forget to turn it off).

Not accurate for measuring light trespass for "Dark Sky" compliance levels
Another review here mentions using this light meter to measure light trespass from their string lights onto a neighbor's yard. I have the opposite: a bright array of LED porch lights next door, and I needed to prove it to be over the 0.2 Foot-Candles (or roughly 2 Lux) levels that are generally acceptable for pre-curfew light trespass at the property line (note that post curfew, e.g., after 10 pm, the levels should be 0.05 to 0.1 fc in a rural area like oursโabout the brightness of a full moon on a clear night). Before measuring outside, I tested this TopTes TS-710 Light Meter in my home office with the recessed lighting dimmed very low, but still enough light for me to barely read. Directly under the bulb, the light meter measured 0; not 0.1 or anything that would be plausible, it just measured zero (0). So, it is simply not accurate enough to be used for such low-light applications like "Dark Sky" compliance levels. I understand that most people won't be using it for that purpose, so I will graciously rate it 3 stars. It works in decent lighting, but I'm not sure of the accuracy. It seems better than my phone light meter app, but that isn't saying much. Just thought I would leave a review for those who might be considering this for measuring light trespass.

Outstanding Piece of Equipment and Value
This is a very well thought-out and executed Lux meter. It offers function and usefulness way beyond what I would have expected for the price. The use is straight-forward. It offers both Lux and foot-candle reading; a capture and hold of a moment of meaurement; and a Max and Min function that updates as the levels change in time. The sensitivity is very high. It also fits a little stand that I use to hold an iPhone. Oddly, the thermometer defaults to Celsius and does not remember a Fahrenheit choice the way that the TF-501B instrument does. Could not ask for more!

Cheap Junk.
Non-functional. Bought it for work, but it was past the return date before it got used. I previously had used a different brand & model that was more expensive but worked for 10 years with no issues. You get what you pay for.

Estremamente funzionale.
Ernesto Franchini.

Accurate and easy to read
Works well, very sensitive if conditions not stable but very accurate. The display is easy to read and the meter part can swivel round which is very handy!

Great for indoor plants
Works well. I bought it for my indoors plants, to know where they needs supplemental lighting. Now, I finally can grow plants indoor wothout killing them. 1 little downside: the head rotate only on 1 side, so sometimes you need to put it in an awkward position to take the reading.
