Not just for knives
Love this knife roll. In fact, I should call it a tool roll. Depending on where I’m going or what I’m doing, I’ll pack it with a selection of different kitchen or BBQ tools. It will take a full set of 5 kitchen knifes, honing steel, some spatulas, spoons etc. I would recommend you use blade guards on your sharps, Mercer do simple plastic ones that are cheep. It will also carry BBQ tools including a wide bladed spatula/flipper up to a 460mm total length. There are a couple of netted and velcro’d pockets on the outside of the protective flap which can hold stuff like speed peelers, small tongs, can opener, brushes and stuff like that. The roll itself is a good weight/quality, it has a descent strap and good capacity for me. The elasticated knife pockets are a good size for a chef knife sized handle but you can easily stuff a pairing knife and a utility knife into one pocket. The two velcro straps have plenty of adjustment so you can stuff quite a bit of gear in. If it could be improved, add a carry handle to the outside and improve the netted pockets but that’s nitt picking. Good roll, recommend.

Chef's knife case
I'm using this product for work. Very practical with enough compartments and pockets. They can hold knives in the main compartments and smaller items, in the pockets with zippers. Nice design, too. Fast shipping. I can recommend it.

This is my first Mecer Knife Set I have ever owned and I am beyond excited to have them! They are extremely sharp and strong and have a very comfortable handle, which makes using them a pleasure. I am not a professional chef but I do have a large family to feed and have been cooking for 8-10 people for over 30 years now, and when it's my turn to cook I make everything from scratch which usually means a lot of chopping, slicing, and dicing. I was using an assortment of knives: Shun Ken Onion, Chicago Cutlery, and Henckels. Even though I like my other knives I've been looking for an entire new set of quality knives that match and have had this Mercer knife set and the Shun Ken Onion knife set on my wish list for over a year now. I was very close to buying the Shun knife set but I kept coming back to Mercer over and over and finally decided to buy it because of all the rave reviews from professional chefs and culinary students. One bad thing about the Shun, Ken Onion knives is that they can't handle being used daily without getting micro-chips on their blades. As I said before these knives are sharp and strong and they look like they are exactly what I need, work-horses! The handle of this Genesis set is so comfortable to hold, my hand didn't feel fatigue as when using some of my other knives. I also love the case it came with, its really big, the knives are held in place very well and it has a few extra slots for additional knives. I don't really plan to use the case but I'll keep it just in case I have to travel with them. I purchase the Tojiro (magnetic) Knife Stand to use with this set and I am very happy with the how well it holds all my new Mercer knives! I will update later to let you know how well these knives hold up to regular household use and my satisfaction level after using them for a few months.

Solid and strong, and the storage pouch really makes it. Makes you feel like a professional, plus you can store it away and not use the very sharp knife for every day stuff which dulls the blade

Love this set! Haven't bought a knife set in years so was a little apprehensive of the quality. Happily the quality is great, but you have to be careful, these are sharp! We have several little nicks and cuts to prove it. Food prep is easier and you can cut with precision.

Let's talk about professional knives. Having been a professional chef and restaurateur, I think I know what is required of a knife and if a knife possesses those qualities. I was about to plunk down about eight hundred for a set of Wusthof or Henkels knives because that's what one does to get fine, forged, German cutlery, right? Well, I began reading about several brands of knives and Mercer caught my eye. They are made in Taiwan and are very affordable. Right then and there, being somewhat of a knife snob, I was about to exclude them from the mix. But wait. They're made from the same fine, forged German steel as the old standards. They have solid handles, full tangs and only partial bolsters, which make them lighter and easier to sharpen. Plus, Mercer knives are used in the overwhelming majority of culinary schools all over the world. Perhaps I should give them a try based on the myriad reviews praising their sharpness, durability and value? OK. Well, let me tell you. Although I only have them a short time, they have performed flawlessly in every task I have thrown at them and they hold a razor sharp edge. Don't be afraid to snare a set before somebody smartens up and raises the price! How long will they last? Only time will tell, but based on the quality of craftsmanship and the materials used and the reviews of others who have had them for years, I'd say it's a good bet they will be around longer than I will.
