This engrossing CGP Discover & Learn book is a superb way for children in Years 5 and 6 (ages 9-11) to understand and engage with history. Each topic is presented on a full-colour double-page spread, with timelines, photos and illustrations to help bring the Viking era to life. It’s written in a pupil-friendly style, with clear headings to break up the text and questions to get children thinking about the way people lived at the time. Great book
Like all the other Discover and Learn books, they are so well written. The information is easy for a child to follow, the pictures are great and the language used is child friendly., meaning the words are easy to understand. Definitely recommend these books. Delivery was very quick too.

useful, detailed, interesting...esp on the anglo-saxon kingdoms and the family relationships among the rulers...if only hastings and Stamford bridge had been reversed in time...oh well, dream on...

The Epic saga of the Vikings
Our history-obsessed daughter devours these books. She reads these books for fun, loves to soak up historic facts and to dig into a topic, after which for weeks she will treat me on her detailed knowledge. Which in turn will be a source for little discussions about the subject. Can’t beat that. The Vikings is a decent topic that she didn’t know too much about yet, except for the Danelaw period during the Anglo-Saxon age. Yorvic is now high on our to-visit list. However she more enjoyed the off the beaten track topics in the series like the one about the Maya culture. The text is clear and very well-organised per specific topic per chapter, that often start with a time line, which is absolutely great. What really attracts me and the children however is the presentation and illustrations. On each page there are colourful pictures, maps and photos. This really brings the era to life. The only drawback is that the book comes as a softcover. It’s such nice material that it could have been hard cover. Also because I’m sure her younger brother (and me) will enjoy reading this at a later stage. Moreover, as it is a book from 2014 all years are set in BC/AD-format rather than the BCE/CE designation that is used in most more recent history books. But overall highly recommended.
