Victron Energy SmartSolar MPPT Solar Charge Controller 100V 20A 12/24/48V | Bluetooth Solar Controller for Caravan, Boat and Off-Grid Systems

Simple to install MPPT solar controller and great value (second purchase for me). Bought in preparation for change to lithium batteries from lead carbon. Connectors fit 4mm solar cable with bootlace ferrules on the stranded wire. The victron app it great, very easy to use and adjust parameters to suit batteries. Currently on lead acid settings and only needed to change max charge current. It has out performed my old EPSOLAR tracer easily and responds instantly to current draw from my small system. Now changed to lithium batteries and networked my victron mains charger with the solar charger. Perfect setup.

Fantastic bit of kit. Got it connected to a 200w panel on my shed roof and it charges a battery in the shed. Would recommend for any DIY solar enthusiast.

I bought a GIARIDE 100W 18V 12V Solar Panel Sunpower Cell and a Sunix 20A 12/24 charge controller and hooked it all up with a 12v AGM battery. Was not inmpressed with the Sunix charge controller, it appeared to allow a significant discharge of the battery and really failed to recharge it despite the panel being in or outside the window. It also really didn't provide much in the way of the battery status and really i was surprised that in 2 weeks of zero use, the battery was still basically unusable. Poking around the web and on Amazon, I came across these Victron SmartSolar MPPT charge controllers which use a different battery monitoring and charge process to manage the battery charging and can get up to 30% more into the battery than a standard PWM (Sunix) controller can. Also this particular model has built in bluetooth to connect to the Android/IOS app which is great. I also purchased the Victron ve. Direct cable so that I could connect this to a computer and monitor remotely by connecting back to the computer. I can confirm that the bluetooth and the ve. Direct cable can be used at the same time without any issues. Also note that higher models of this appliance 100/30 and so on have only four connectors like the 6 this has. The key difference is that this unit can manage load directly where when you move up to larger solar installations, load will be managed by another device like the Battery Protect and/or Victron inverter which will cut load when the battery level drops to a given threshold. Yes it's expensive compared to cheaper PWM controllers but I have to say that I'm really, really impressed with this. I stupidly rushed the swap-out of the Sunix controller and got the Battery and Solar mixed up with no damage to the device :-) Bizarrely, the battery polarity is the opposite way round to all the other input/outputs so be careful there... My only real complaint is that the cable sockets are quite small and it really struggled to get the cables in... (Victron really want you to move up to the larger models). Overall I'm really happy with this, no major complaints, it's solid, very well manufactured and very straightforward to set up.

Paired with a 12v 100ah Lipo battery the Victron MPPT 100/20 solar controller, powered with 2 x110W panels in series then parallel with 2x100w panels in series. Gives a strong 40v with approx 6 amps even on cloudy days. Battery has not missed a beat and at £55 I really cannot complain. Its been faultless. The bluetooth connection with the app allows you to view your system live as well as historically. Loads of fun.

Slick easy to install. Bluetooth to your phone and install the Victron connect app. Lots of output switching options and really robust design. I bought a cheap solar charger on Amazon and it lasted 3 months and dried. Victron kit is bombproof and full of features.
