Product Description Gorge Fitness Mask simulates the effects of High Altitude Training. When elite athletes want to improve their performance they go to high altitude levels to train. When they come back to sea level they perform much stronger, faster, and have increased endurance. The basic concept behind simulated altitude training is it provides you with the advantage of training in the mountains, the effects altitude training may have on your body include an increase of endurance, reduced recovery time and weight loss. Exposure to reduced oxygen levels is a challenge to the human body because oxygen is the primary source of energy for our cells. The body strives to produce required amounts of energy with less oxygen available. Exercising at altitude improves muscular endurance and increases fitness through intensified aerobic and anaerobic training sessions. Training with this mask prepares an individual best for competition or hiking at altitude by improving breathing economy, and the ability to stay saturated with oxygen while working hard at altitude. The result being you'll feel less fatigued and will recover quicker, which therefore means you can increase your training intensity and move up a gear. Box Contains Mask, head strap, replacement resistance valve caps, instruction card Review: Early review from my first two training runs. - I am training for a marathon and as I hit being 52 I am beginning to notice that my recovery time is longer and there are more aches and pains after threshold runs. It was suggested that I try a training mask as the mask lowers the intensity of the threshold run, thus placing less stress on my body, but still keeping my heart rate in zone 5. My weight is between 68-70kg and as such I went for a small mask. It feels to fit well, with no air leaks and there is very little pressure around the bridge of my nose, but I do wonder how the medium might fit, however, having the small mask means I have to ensure I keep my weight down. It would have helped me had there been clearer instruction as to how to fit valves in the mask. As I am not a gym or club member, I am not part of a community I could seek advice from. On watching videos on setting up the mask, they appeared to contradict the set up in the mask I received and the information on the website. But that of course could be my reading of the information. But on sending an email to Gorge they were very quick to help out and I now have the mask set up at 3000 feet and ready to use. So far I have used the mask on two runs, a short 20 mins get a feel for the mask run and then a threshold hill run of 50 mins. It is worth pointing out that on one section of the hill run I knocked 10 seconds of a PB, so it may be that the mask is making me run much more effectively. Okay, I know that the mask does not lower the oxygen content in the air and as such does not simulate altitude, but it does focus the breathing, as there is less air avalible, does force you to use all of your breath, and does make for some strange looks on my 5 am runs. It made the hill run much more of a challenge, without over straining my body, which I think is the main purpose of the mask, well it is for me. Review: Lungburn - I was very sceptical like a lot of people, but it works your intercostal muscles like nothing else. There is no solid evidence this works, but it's got to be a fitness benefactor.
