Underrated Shmup Classic!
The Astro City Mini V is an awesome and very underated unit that compiles some of the best and most unique shoot em up titles that were never released before in home consoles or ports outside of MAME emulation and remained arcade exclusives only. If you are an oldschool fan of shmups it is truly priceless and a piece of gaming history. Just to have oficially licensed ports of Armed Police Batrider, Battle Bakraid, Truxton 2 and Outzone is truly a blessing and is worth it just for these titles alone. It also has some other great ones here too. Batsugun is also included, one of the best and it is an alternative way to play it. The games play in very high quality. When connecting the unit through the HDMI port to a HDTV it has perfect frame rate, improved sound and just a lot better quality than emulating them in general. Apparently it is compatible with some Sega mini controllers and Mayflash arcade sticks through the Mayflash magic sticks but have not done any testing on that yet. The unit controls are responsive and do the job just fine but for getting the most out of the unit, it would be a great idea to connect it in to a big screen or monitor and change the rotation vertically or TATE mode on the main menu settings. No input lag from my unit and cannot truly understand where most complains seem to come from since I have personally not experienced any lag and the games are completely playable. Do not miss out on this gem of a unit if you are a fan of shmups due to reading negative reviews that are completely baseless and incorrect...Great delivery service by Amazon. One of the best purchases I have ever made and would highly recommend this awesome unit. 10 out of 10!

Great Desktop Arcade
This unit gets a bad rap for input lag. There's no perceptible lag if you use a USB power source that provides 5v 3.2 amps or greater. I have an Anker usb power block that supplies 3.6 amps, and it works great. The game library is what it is. You either love shmups or you should look elsewhere. The screen and controls are best-in-class. The joystick has microswitch. The screen is bright and colorful and big with great viewing angles. The unit itself looks great. It comes nicely packaged with micro USB and HDMI cables. I really don't have any complaints. It could be better usb-c, I guess, but micro usb was common for over a decade. I'd definitely recommend it if you're into the game list.

You need to really like hard old school shmups to get the most out of this
The Astro City mini V is a more focused library of games. Most being shoot 'em ups to make the best use of the Tata oriented screen. Otherwise, it is basically like the original Astro City mini. The library is noticeably smaller on the Astro City V compared to Sega's other mini candy cabinet. Additionally, the vast majority of them are vertical scrolling STGs better known today as shoot 'em ups or shmups. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's just that this console is far more focused on genre compared to the more varied genres (including shmups) on the original Astro City mini. And this genre happens to be one of my favorite.Included here are a few Taoplan and Psikyo shooters. And Taoplan is known for tough shmups. This collection is no exception. These some of the toughest old school arcade shooters I've played. And many of them are from the days of checkpoints, meaning no credit feeding to see more of the game than your skill allows. Fortunately, this console does allow a couple of save states. But shmups aren't exactly known for letting the player have much breathing room to pause and save a game. So, if you want to get a fair distance into some of these games prepare to get in some practice. The game library is a mix of stuff that is relatively easy to find on different platforms such as Steam. In fact, one game is on another mini console. But there is still a fair number I've never got the chance to play.So if you are looking for some of the harder old school arcade shoot 'em ups, this isn't too bad. But if you are wanting a more well-rounded experience the original Astro City mini is probably more your speed.

Input lag
It’s the first thing you should know about this device. The lag varies from game to game, but Battle Bakraid, Gunbird and Batrider are the worst offenders. Some games perform wonderfully, like the previously unreleased in any other form Dogyuun. All in all this thing has got some super rare arcade shooters and can be amazing for the hardcore market if you know what to expect from this device. It is also compatible with the Genesis mini controllers if you want to play that way.

Anyone that love retro arcade gaming needs this!
I really love these mini arcade units! I've bought almost every unit including both versions of the Sega Astro City (vertical and horizontal screens). Love that you can hook them to a monitor using the HDMI out and that it has two USB ports for connecting controllers to it. Nice Job Sega!
