Great book for dairy free eating and no crazy ingredients!
I have only made one recipe so far, but am so excited for this book. I am dairy free but donโt like buying special ingredients like dairy free sour cream, vegan butter, etc. I wanted easy ingredients that arenโt going to cost me and arm and a leg. I love this book because it offers just that- recipes that donโt require crazy ingredients. I love this book takes the time at the beginning to walk through notes on ingredients like oils, nuts, and grains. She explains the difference between oils and how they react in certain recipes. It is great information to know before diving into cooking. There are also some great easy morning recipes Iโm so excited to try out! The recipes also have notes and tips for varying food allergies. There are options for most recipes if you are gluten, soy, or nut free, to change out ingredients. I value this in a cookbook because Iโm also soy free. A lot of dairy free recipes include soy ingredients and this book does a great job of adjusting recipes to fit that need. Each recipe has a picture, which I love because I am a very visual person. Iโm excited for this book and am glad I purchased. If youโre dairy free or have food allergies, this book is highly recommended.

Useful book of tasty easy dairy free recipes
I discovered this author on her website godairyfree.org. (She has a vegan section and once I had made โSpinach Stuffed Portabella Mushroomsโ I was hooked) As a new vegan I am not missing meat but I am missing creamy soups and sauces as well as cheesy casseroles. I found her website quite helpful so I ordered both her books. Eat Dairy Free is her second book and has about 110 recipes. Each recipe is illustrated with a mouth-watering photo. At the beginning of each chapter is a useful chart that tells you whether or not each recipe is vegan, egg free, gluten free, tree nut free, peanut free, or soy free. All recipes are, of course, dairy free, virtually all the recipes are either egg free or have an egg free option. The clear instructions, attractive photos and tasty healthy recipes make this a great cookbook for dairy free eating. The first few chapters worked well for me - lots of vegan smoothies, breakfasts, snacks (Savory Sun-dried Tomato and zucchini muffins -Yum!). The problem is the main dish section which has almost no vegan options and lots of meat dishes. All dairy free of course. Then on to the dessert chapter where once again virtually everything was vegan. This authorโs first book Go Dairy Free with its 250 recipes has actually worked out better for me. Itโs not illustrated but the abundance of vegan creamy cheesy recipes was what I was looking for. Bottom line is that for a vegan this is a useful recipe book. For a dairy free person that eats meat, Eat Dairy Free is perfect!

For those with Lactose Intolerance, Get this one
Alisa Fleming has a winning cookbook. I've suffered with extreme lactose-intolerance, and it is hard to adapt recipes. Now I don't have to - this recipe book has done the work for me. Can't wait to try many of them! Another dairy-free cookbook I bought (and discarded) stated that eggs were not dairy, and so that author put tons of egg recipes in it. But my neighbor is an Enzyme Doctor (yes, there is such a thing) and he says the Same Enzyme is used to digest eggs and dairy. Ms. Fleming understands that and recommends egg substitutes if you are very sensitive. She also suggests gluten and vegan substitutes for those with multiple allergies. Kudos.

A well-designed cookbook that's great for eaters of all kinds.
I purchased Eat Dairy Free on the recommendation from a friend and am grateful for the tip. This is a beautiful, well-organized cookbook, full of straightforward, tasty recipes. Though my family is not entirely dairy-free, I rarely cook with dairy and am always on the lookout for new ideas. The Cream of Portobello Soup especially well received, and the Raw Pecan Pie Bites have become a staple snack. As a cheese-eater, I can say without reservation that the Cheesy Twice-Baked Potatoes were a very satisfying alternative to my mother's recipe. I recommend Eat Dairy Free for anyone interested in cutting back on dairy, in addition to those who are exclusively dairy-free.

Get this for the person in your life whose body has betrayed them and can no longer eat dairy. Some of the stuff in here is actually really good and will help them forget what they have been missing all these years!

Alisa Fleming has written a cookbook that not only finds dairy substitutes for dishes that usually contain dairy, but (mostly) avoids processed substitutes, and gives options for adapting the recipes to avoid other main allergens, such as gluten, eggs, nuts and soya. A godsend for those not only with dairy allergy but multiple food allergies. You can tell from the recipes that she's a mum not a chef - and I mean that absolutely as a compliment! These are recipes you can cook at home. Just a great cookbook.
