when it says vacuum ready, does that mean it doesn't work with a compressed air hose attached to it?

It takes an airline to operate the tool. It means that a vacuum line may also be attached to reclaim dust particle so that they are not airborn. It also means that the 6inch pad has small holes to allow those particles to pass through to the vacuum. You do not need a vacuum system to operate this tool, however select a different 6inch pad w/o holes. I have 10 of these and they are excellent for the price
