Would this work well for a door that has farmhouse type of trim (trim/casing is about an inch thicker than the door)?

I wouldn’t recommend this product for that kind of door. It wouldn’t work because of how the lock needs to be positioned to work.

Can this item be installed if a door already has a deadbolt lock?

Yes definitely. I have a deadbolt

Can this be installed at the top of door?

Yes, if your door frame allows you to do so . I had to put mine low because it didn’t fit any higher and didn’t allow me to close the door .
