Does what it’s supposed to do. Heavy and robust.

Solid, well built, keyed and sufficient for our needs. It's heavy but it's from concrete, not thick steel. It claims to be fire resistant, water resistant but you cannot expect miracles. I'd prefer a lighter "safe" to carry out of our house in case of a fire or zombie apocalypse evacuation. The weight of the safe does not give me the illusion of impregnability. We have this to store our passports, wills, deeds, automobile titles and the like. We'll keep our gold bars, magic rings and plutonium reserves in our imaginary subterranean vault. Not bad, should suffice. Oh yes. You will be surprised by the stench when you open this. Drag it into the garage to off-gas for a while. Wiccans may want to try a cleansing spell or get a priest to perform an exorcism. It's bad, but only for a few days. Don't open it in the house for a while.

Very heavy, with cheap plastic clips and a lock that broke on first use. It seems the engineering budget went entirely into the weight and not into the security hardware. Even before it failed, the lock felt flimsy and inadequate for something marketed as a safe. Broken on day one and not worth the price. Save your money and look elsewhere.

Item arrived quickly, Its fairly heavy for its size seems well made. This is not really a safe since the latch mechanism is not heavy duty but we purchased this with the recommendation of our attorney to store our important documents including our will and passports in case of a fore and easy access to those documents should we not be available. You are instructed to leave the box laying flat and the weight of the lid making a good seal which is ok if you can keep in laying down and not standing on edge. The interior size is ok will fit the width of a legal size papers. .

Overall, I like this safe, but it has some features that purchasers need to be aware of. First, the safe is extremely heavy for its size. It feels as if it is lined with lead. Of course, that can be a valuable quality if there is a flood, but it makes it very difficult to move from one spot in one's home to another. Second, the size of the document storage compartment is rather modest. It will fit a reasonably sized 3-leaf binder for letter-sized paper, but if you expect to store a not particularly large number of documents, you will probably need to purchase more than one of these. (I have two.) Third, the purpose of the safe is to protect the items within it from the main natural disasters--fire and flood--and if it actually holds up in a fire or a flood, then it will be worth it. But what the safe is not very good at protecting items from is theft. Each safe comes with a pair of numbered keys, but not only are replacement keys from the manufacturer (a licensee of Honeywell) rather expensive and potentially purchaseable by someone else (despite the requirement of a notarized affidavit, since the keys can be purchased by their three-digit number, which is now actually printed on the front of the safe, whereas in an earlier version it was not), but the lock itself is easily opened with a paper clip. (YouTube videos can show you--and therefore also potential thieves--how to accomplish this.) In summary, the safe is heavy, small, and subject to break-ins. If it is kept in a secure and out-of-view location and if it actually protects the items within it from flood or fire, then it is definitely worth the price. But the caveats need to be kept in mind.

This is a good-sized strongbox that should hold all your important papers and a few discs and thumbdrives, and still slide under a bed. It has enough security to keep out curious kids or casual thieves, but it isn't really a safe, and I like the fact that it's marketed as a chest. I don't even bother locking mine. Like anything that's rated for serious fire protection, you do have to be careful with internal humidity. The ONLY way to get real fire protection is to have a chest or safe that will seal in humidity, to seal out heat. You will need to open it up once a month or so to equalize the humidity; I also stick in a reusable dessicant to absorb moisture. I could probably do it less often in my dry climate, but it's easy enough to do this as a monthly chore. You can get a cheap lockable box that doesn't require this, but in a serious fire the heat will destroy paper documents even if the box itself is intact.

How well will this product protect my valuables in a fire? And, is it really waterproof? I don't know. And I hope I'll never have a fire to find out. It's heavy (over 40 lbs.). But it's not so heavy that most adults won't be able to retrieve it and take it with them. The interior and exterior of the case are made of plastic. And the silver-colored exterior latches are plastic too, and look cheap. But of course, it's not the plastic that's going to protect my valuables in a fire. That's the job of the heavy concrete-like material between the walls of plastic. And since I have no intention of testing this device to see if it works, I have to rely on the industry rating, as well as the reputation of the company that made it. Therefore, my five-star rating is based only on what I can see, and not how well it protected my valuables in a fire. Features: 1. The heavy lid is damped so it won't slam shut on your fingers. 2. It locks with a key, and I'm glad it does. I don't want to rely on a battery-operated keypad to open it. Two keys are included. 3. It has a handle that makes it easier to carry. Interior dimensions (per Honeywell): 3.8 inches High x 14.8 inches Wide x 12 inches Deep. Country of origin: No, it's not made in the USA. It's made in China (it clearly says so on the box).

The only option for locking this safe is a key and these keys are cheap and flimsy. After barely six months use, one of the keys has snapped off in the lock and now my passports and papers are locked in and I will have to call a locksmith. Good job I'm not travelling anytime soon or it could be a real problem. Very poor given the quality of the overall item seems decent enough. Strange to skimp on such a critical element.
