These are the best boots ever! This should be your first (and maybe last) Docs!
This is my 8th pair of Docs and these are the best. The leather is so soft, there is very little breaking in time though I'd still only wear them a few hours a day at first because the heel cup is still rigid. The leather is very nice and matte. The product image has grainier or more textured leather--which is what I wanted--but I'm not too disappointed. These look and feel fantastic. With other Doc boots, the area around the ankle will still be a little stiff even after years of wear. This is no big deal because it's not uncomfortable and if you need the protection (like riding a motorcycle or stuff at work), it's nice. However these are very soft around the entire ankle from day one. They actually move and flex a bit. I can't tell you how nice this is!I know there is a lot of complaining about UK-made versus China-made docs. At this price point, obviously this is the China-made version. However, I think the quality and value is still excellent. The craftsmanship in the UK-made boots are noticeably better. However, will the China-made ones hold up? Absolutely. The construction is still the same in principle. Did it ever dawn on people that a big part of the price difference between the two is because UK wages are much higher than the Chinese labor--which is why they are mostly made in China? I can't fault DM for making a sound business decision 90% of shoe manufacturers do. (Redwing, Nike, Adidas, Uggs, Etc). The soles are great, darker than the other ones that look more clear and like hot glue. This tread pattern is the best. The other heavier lug sole tread kind of have a logger-look and make the boot look clunkier. I have both, and this is a good all-year tread. The only Doc boot I have that is more comfortable is probably the Rigal. However, it's more like a basketball shoe than a boot. Also, for me the sizing is way off (they run big) and they get a little hot inside.Inside, the footbed is super comfortable. Now these are boots. All boots get a little hot, unlike super-breathable mesh running shoes. But compared to other boots, these breath okay and are simultaneously water-proof. If you need more arch support--like many people do--SuperFeet makes a half-size plastic supplement for shoes. It only goes to the middle of your foot to the heal and it's very thin. It would not take up much of the foot room which can be adjusted anyway with the laces. It makes a remarkable difference and you can get few more hours out of these if you stand all day. It is a hard plastic device so do test them out first in stores. Mine never slip.I love these Carpathian boots and I think you will too. If you are looking to buy your first pair of DMs and you don't want them to be shiny, these are the ones. They won't kill your feet the first 10 times you wear them and they look awesome!

Very attractive leather and a nice shoe all around
Very attractive leather and a nice shoe all around. The size 11 UK fits me just a tad big (11.5-12 US for boots is my usual), but they are completely wearable and still pretty comfortable. I am definitely in between sizes for this particular DM. I have another DM (8053 Oxford) in size 11 UK that fits me perfectly. This seems like a "simple", no-nonsense boot to me. There's just a decent cut of leather and no real extra support or insulation (although the iconic DM rubber soles are grippy and reasonably cushiony). I'm not sure they would be tough, thick, or supportive enough for a heavy-labor work boot. Compared to my Thorogood boots, these are slightly less supportive and not as comfortable. The Thorogood leather is thicker, more supple, and higher quality, but these DMs are still quite nice. Stitching and construction seems excellent. I would say these lean toward stylish, dressy-casual boots rather than "purposeful" or task-specific boots, but they deserve a little more praise than that. They are good all-purpose boots.I would definitely recommend these highly. If I didn't wear these interchangeably with my Thorogoods, I wouldn't know what I was missing, and would probably give a 5 star review. Of course the Thorogoods are $60-100 more. These DMs are definitely worth what they sell for.

Fits like a EEE wide...
This is a nice leather, full grain high quality boot. The leather in the leg of the boot is already soft upon arrival. There is just too much room inside. I’d need to always wear thick socks, or two pair. These fit more like a EEE extra wide than the D Medium. You don’t want all that extra room, you can quickly twist your ankle. Worse, there is so much width to the entire boot that the eyelets were touching each other. You won’t be able to maneuver well or quickly either. If you have wide feet and fat ankles and legs, you will like the fitment. Just not the fit for me.The color isn’t as consistent as it looks FYI. The vamp is much lighter than the quarter which looks fashionable but not my thing, more of a teenager look. See the photos I’ve attached.PS. This would be Best looking when the laces are tied around the shaft. You can find videos on You Tube. If it’s loose anyway why not make it look good!

wonderful gift
got these in bark as a christmas gift for my boyfriend who has never worn docs before. he fell in love with them! they fit fairly well, a little roomy but still comfortable and no need to be returned. also a great part about the bark color is that the leather is flexible. i had told him stories about how i had to break in my docs (black smooth leather for women) for a week and how painful the process was. we were both happy to discover that he would not have to go through the same experience! the docs were instantly easy to wear; minor stiffness was dealt with after just a few days and he didn't experience any major discomfort. a wonderful value for an amazing price. so happy to have gotten him boots that he loves and will last many years, great for muddy weather at our midwestern college and for snowy and icy conditions at his home in colorado.as for authenticity: the pictures don't lie, these are clearly authentic doc martens that come in the brand box. all of the trademarks were present: "the original" embossed on the sole, signature yellow stitching, and the "air wair/with bouncing soles" graphic on the tag.overall could not be more satisfied with this product.

... so have to wear heavier socks than I would like for them to fit
Due to not having half sizes I find these to be a bit too wide so have to wear heavier socks than I would like for them to fit. Item is of good quality.

Crippling
The worst pair of illfitting boots I've ever owned. I have worn lots of different types of boots walking boots working boots steel toe caps and casual boots for the past 40 years and never had a pair like theseWhen I tried them on as usual they were a bit tight but usually they break in in a few days or a week at the most. But not them it's strange the foot bit grips like a vice but the heel slips up and down and my big toes are numb and when you feel inside the toe area its like sandpaper the funny thing is I know my right foot is slightly bigger but it's the left one that's worse I have tried shoe stretchers and average 18000 steps a day but after 3 weeks they are still brutalDoc Martins never again
