It turns in fairly weak indirect light but standard lamps have to be fairly bright to activate. I bought the Earth/political and it turns plenty fast. You want to be able to see the countries and not just blur past. DO NOT put it in direct light or there's an issue with gassing creating air bubbles. I bought the 6" which is a pretty good size. It was heavier than I expected but it's full of liquid so it's going have some weight.
