Having been in the business since the age of 14 I have a great appreciation for the hospitality industry. In the past 10 years I have worked every job in the house and still strive to know all that this business has to offer. This book is a great extension of the knowledge I already have and a go-to guide for subjects I have yet to conquer. It's a very simple read and an almost never-ending source of information. I recommend this book to anybody that has hopes of making it in this business as I hope to do someday as well... I also recommend this to anybody that has made it. Keep it at your desk as a reference guide and I promise it will help you as it regularly helps me.

We have a family business in Entertainment and recently we started our first ever Hotel project. Having no knowledge on how Hotels are runned and what needs to be kept in mind at each stage, i decided ill turn to some good old books to improve my knowledge of this segment. This being one of the top rated books, i grabbed straight on. After reading it i can safely say, for anyone who has zero-low knowledge of hospitality sector, you will enjoy this book and get some great ideas... but if you have worked in hospitality sector then this book might be way too basic for you. The 100 points in it pretty much all makes sense and has some good take outs. Do try it out, its an easy read and you will done pretty quickly with the book.

I have a small, family-run hotel, so many of the things he talks about (the huge mega resorts on private islands) don't directly apply to me. Eventually we DO want to grow to a larger hotel, and the tips he has to offer will certainly be useful. He talks about considerations like which way rooms face (east/west, etc), and how to get guests to forgive construction mess and when not to push their buttons. It is obvious that the author has traveled extensively, and has taken note of everything he thinks would be helpful. He includes countless stories and personal observations. It's easy to read and is broken down into small chapters. It's the perfect book to keep in your car or bag for quick reads. If you get this book and are the kind of person that wants an outline of "do THIS and then THAT will happen," don't expect the book to lay everything out for you. This is an awesome resource for a way to get ideas flowing in your own mind about how to set up and run your hotel.

This is an amazing book containing invaluable operating advice from each stage of property development or acquisition through opening day and beyond. To be clear, this isn't a step-by-step hotel or resort management handbook. For that, I'd suggest looking at "World of Resorts: From Development to Management." Instead, the book offers a list of 100 tips, insights and suggestions based upon the author's more than 50-years of experience developing and managing hotels and resorts throughout the world -- including many of the world's most well-known and respected luxury properties. While written specifically for hoteliers and developers, owners and managers of smaller properties (such as boutique hotels and Bed & Breakfast operations) can also derive considerable value from this book. Highly recommended!!

This book grabbed my attention from the beginning! The author’s insightful views and perspectives are all on point! Excellent read! Concise with many examples throughout and helpful tips in the world of hospitality and management. Highly recommend!

The book has a lot of good information ... if you're building a hotel from the dirt upwards, and fully involved in opening, staffing and marketing. I don't consider that as necessary knowledge for "every successful hotel professional." Perhaps 40% of the book would apply to those interested in hotel management, and even less if one were interested in being a better hotel employee. There's little doubt that the author knows his stuff, but I cannot recommend it as being appropriate for one and all.

Good guide to those that are thinking abou to invest in the hotelry business. Easy to read.

It is an interesting and fast paced reading. Tries to cover every aspect of running a hotel. So it is not detailed and it is not for the experienced professional. Some tips are also outdated. It is great though for the newcomers to get an idea about how things work.
