EGO Power+ 12" Brush Cutter Attachment, Use with Cordless Electric Power Head Multi-Head System - BCA1220

I bought this brush cutter head to clear several areas at the edge of woods on my lot. I was looking forward to getting it because of the very positive experience I've had with every EGO Power+ tool I've bought in the past...and this one did not disappoint! The head came well-packaged and in perfect condition. Took me about 10 minutes to put it together, and that was working slowly and carefully. It's well-built with a carbon fiber shaft and a very solid and very sharp blade--I was impressed with the quality. It has a guard for the blade and also has a barrier bar that gets added to the hand grip of the power head that it attaches to. No problems at all putting it together. The cutter fit very well to the head, nice and snug. I snapped it on, put on the ear and eye protection, and headed out to see how it would work. To give the punchline first: It went through my brush and saplings like they were made of butter. I had a pretty good size area I needed to clear, maybe 1000 sq ft. See attached pics for before and after. To give a perspective, some of the samplings were approx 8 feet tall, some of the were over 1 inch in diameter. Largest was probably about an inch and a half, but the power head + cutter had no problems at all. I was able to clear the entire area, including dragging off all the debris, in about 30 minutes with motor speed on low. I used a 5.0 Ah EGO battery on the head. That made a nice balance for the blade weight. With the shoulder strap on, it was not physically strenuous at all. So, while I was at it, I cleared a few smaller areas! This cutter plus the power head make a great tool. I'm very happy with it and look forward to using it a lot more. Might see if my neighbor needs anything trimmed :-)

A seriously powerful tool - will cut through almost anything (if this isn't enough, it's chainsaw time). It's relatively light weight, but robust and well-built, the blades are very sharp, and resilient even when I occasionally hit a rock. Battery life is on a par with a good string trimmer, and it's easy to use and control, and can work well either in big sweeps or maneuvering in a tight, confined space.

Works great. Cuts through tough long grass and weeds and takes out buck brush and other non-native shrubs.

I’ve used this a few times now and I have nothing to complain about. I was definitely cutting through the brush pretty well and fast. I love that I can pull this out of the main unit very easily and not have to purchase a fully dedicated tool. I used it for about 30 minutes and did not lose much battery.

A good brush cutter

I don't normally write reviews, but I am so happy with this machine, that I came in for a rest and thought I would share my thoughts. Six weeks ago, I broke my arm trying to clear brush around a 300 ft long berm of trees on my place. During convalescence, I tried to hire it done, and was either turned down due to the difficulty of the work, or quoted "a couple thousand". So while I healed up, I bought the EGO BCA1220 brushcutter attachment and the PH1420 power head. The orthopedic surgeon cleared me to work this week, so I gave my new toy a whirl. In about 4 hours of work over the weekend, I was able to completely clear the berm of chest high, heavy-stalk weeds. This thing sliced through them like butter. I cycled between 2, 5 AH batteries, and was happy for the rest, as the machine had more energy that the operator. It is more like a lawnmower blade than a string trimmer, so not something to use around delicate plantings, or children. But man-o-man, this thing works like a champ. Highly recommend the attachment, as well as the powerhead.

The brush cutter works well, but there was one small assembly problem. I also purchase the PH1420 power head with this brush cutter. The brush cutter comes with a "barrier bar" that is meant to be retrofitted to the PH1420 power head. A longer quick release latch is supplied with the barrier bar so that it can be mounted along with the PH1420's handle. Unfortunately the wing nut that's part of the original PH1420 handle will not thread on the new quick release latch. I used a standard M6 nut to mount the barrier bar and that works fine. Before adding my own hardware I did contact EGO tech support, but they were unable to help. The longer quick release latch is not part of the parts list for the brush cutter and they didn't have access to the manual for the brush cutter (where the new latch is referenced) so they weren't able to send a replacement part. This is a new product so I expect this small issue will be fixed in the future. One more detail: Oddly the standard M6 nut fits both the original latch stud and the new latch stud, but the wing nut only fits the original stud. All the threads look relatively clean, so I'm guessing there's a potential "fit class" issue with the wing nut.

I NEEDED SOMETHING FOR HEAVIER WORK THEN MY EGO WEEDEATER. THIS ATTACHMENT, (along with the Power Head) DOES THE JOB I NEEDED IT FOR. I HAVE CUT HEAVY/THICK GRASS, BRIARS, DIFFERENT TYPES OF WEEDS, UP TO 1/2 in. & EVEN TREE SAPLENDS & UNDERGROWTH UP TO 1 in. THE POWERHEAD & BLADE ATTACHMENT IS LIGHTWEIGHT, EASY TO HANDLE & MANEUVER. VERY SATISFIED WITH THIS ITEM. I HAVE 8 DIFFERENT EGO BRAND BATTERY POWERED ITEMS, INCLUDING THE 42 in. CUT, ZERO TURN MOWER w/STEERING WHEEL. WILL "NEVER" BUY ANOTHER GAS POWERED TOOL/PRODUCT AGAIN!

I bought this for brush clearing with my EGO trimmer. It works better than I expected, and did a great job without the fumes.

I know it says only compatible with ph1420. I have the 1400 and it worked well. Only difference is the handle and extra support. I ordered an adjustable handle separately so I'm hoping I can get the same outcome without replacing a fully functional unit.

This is a monster. Weedy trees, inch and a half in diameter, cuts through easily. Wish I bought this earlier. If you have a larger property with brush, you won’t regret owning this.
