Winter Garden is a haunting and compelling novel illuminating the intricate mother–daughter bond and the enduring links between past and present by the national bestelling author, Kristin Hannah. Meredith and Nina Whitson are as different as sisters can be. One stayed at home to raise her family and manage the family apple orchard; the other followed a dream and travelled the world to become a famous photojournalist. But these two estranged women come together at their father’s deathbed, standing alongside their cold, disapproving mother, Anya, to hear the one last promise he extracts from the women in his life. It begins with a story like no other. A captivating, mysterious love story that spans sixty-five years and moves from war-torn Leningrad in the 1940’s to modern-day Alaska. The three women are brought together by a story so unexpected and extraordinary that when Meredith and Nina finally learn the secret of their mother’s past, and uncover a truth so terrible, it will shake the very foundation of the family and who they think they are. ‘Compelling. Moving’ Karen Swan, author of The Last Summer Review: Gripping story - One of kristin hannah's best novel. Winter garden is a must read. A woman who fought against all odds and tried to hold onto the memories of her past life while trying to live her present. Review: Worth the read. - The book is slow for first half of the book... it almost feels like giving up but the story told inside the story is far more interesting than the book and it kept me going. The last half of the story is so unexpected and sad. Worth the read.

Love, loss, sacrifice, and unimaginable strength
One of the saddest, purest, and most beautiful stories I have ever read. A story about love, loss, sacrifice, and unimaginable strength. Once I picked it up, it took all my determination to put it down even for a while. The author succeeds in touching all the soft corners of the heart and how! I'm not sure if it's an underrated book but it DEFINITELY doesn't deserve to be.

Gripping!!
The books gives an insight into the aftermath of War, the unprecedented loss of human lives, hunger and uncertainties which follow bring the realisation that the world is a much better place than before ( though a lot needs to be done ! ) The pace is little slow in the beginning but picks up soon and then the book is totally unputdownable

Warmth in the midst of winter
This book is absolutely perfect, from the cover to the story. Drawn by the beautifully intriguing cover,I grabbed this book ,only to fall in love with it. The book is an amazing exploration of how a person's past is effectual in determining his/her present relationships,of how pain changes people. The mother who appears to be a cold, disapproving woman,is later shown to have suffered unimaginably, during the communist purge in Russia, offering the daughters a new perspective on their previously strained relationship with their mother. The book reads like a unique fairytale, with pain, forgiveness and hope unflinchingly explored. It will leave you with a warm feeling,in the midst of even the most bitter of winters. Absolutely beautiful

I have sat on this review for a week now. I just didn't have the right words to sum up my feelings. To be able to express to you all my thoughts and feelings on this book. This book absolutely ruined me. It shattered every fiber of my heart. But I am going to try to express, in words, as best as I can, how amazing this book was. I found Winter Garden to be both breathtaking and magnificent, yet heart-wrenching. It made me feel things I didn't even know I was capable of feeling. This book evoked such emotion in me. There are books that I read and I love and then there are those few that change me. That shake me to the core. This was one of them. What began as a family mystery turned into an epic story of love and survival. Kristin Hannah's writing is absolutely exquisite. She writes with a deeply profound and insightful way. Her research and understanding of people was absolutely amazing. As a mother, I cried so many tears. There was no way I couldn't read this through the lense of what I would do in Anya's shoes. All I wanted to do was hold my daughter a little longer while reading this. As I was reading, my rating went from maybe 4 stars at first, to 4.5, to 5, then it was a solid 5 stars. Please note the genre of this book is women's fiction, and not specifically romance even though there is indeed a beautiful, powerful, and heart-wrenching love story at the heart of the book. The other important things to know before you read is that I do think some readers might find the book a little slow at first and maybe even find that they didn't 'like' the characters. Don't let that worry you. I promise you there's a reason for this. This is a story that builds in layers of complexity and emotional depth. It is absolutely worth it to stick with the story because the impact and delivery of both the second half of the book and especially the ending is just so incredible and powerful! Because this book's genre is indeed different from my usual recommendations, I strongly suggest that you read the blurb before purchasing. It's a very accurate representation of the story. For me personally, I knew I wanted to read this book the moment I read the blurb. This book is a forever top favorite of mine, now. This was my first Kristin Hannah book and I seriously can not wait to read more of her books this year.

Winter Garden: excelente libro

A fairy tale within a story.
The author did an amazing job pulling this book together and telling the story in this manner. It took a while to get into it but I loved this book.
