I was a bit apprehensive about purchasing this as I had bought a similar one from an unknown brand some time ago, that was a lot cheaper and was massively disappointed with the suction power and filtering capabilities as it still spat out a load of dirt back into the tank no matter how often I was cleaning the filters. But with not finding anything else that looked like it was up to the job, not wanting to revert to more often water changes/cleaning and also as I have bought many other products from this brand and not had any issues I thought I would give it a go even though I thought it was a bit pricey. I am happy to say that it's been a breath of fresh air (or water!). The suction power on this is great and the filter catches all the dirt in the water/gravel and just leaves clean water pumped out into the tank. You do have to clean the filters regularly but that just means it's getting plenty of dirt out of the water and only leaving the good stuff behind. The LED light wasn't really a selling point for me but has been good in allowing you to see more easily where you are picking things up when it starts to get a bit murky and the large head makes it quicker and easier to get the job done. I haven't used it to replace any water yet but it looks simple enough to do, i.e. remove the filter container and attach a hose pipe to the outgoing pipe instead of pumping the water into a bucket or container. If you have reservations about this due to the price I would recommend giving it a go as I have been pleasantly surprised and your Fish will thank you. I could swear I have seen my fish smiling more often since using this!

First impression of the build quality is poor. It feels like it's made from recycled plastic.. for the money it does not feel like a well made item and expensive for what it is. But it does the job very well, you just have to be careful when using it and cleaning it after as it feels like it could break bits off easily. With the filter it works well but be ready for cloudy water as some of the dirt will pass through the filter until it clogs up a little. With the hose attached ( option) it is really good as it just gets rid of everything and no problems with dirty water after. So all in all does the job well.

I like Fluval as a brand but have to say that I am disappointed by the suction performance of this and the fact that the filter gets so dirty so quickly. It is one of the most expensive on the market but is unable to suck up fish waste on either setting unless if is really small amounts (my swordtails leave poops that can be over an inch long - no chance of them being picked up) and even small amounts get stuck on the dome filter (the one that prevents fish from being sucked up) and then fall back into the water when the pump is turned off - I have all but given up with this and gone back to a manual siphon instead but that means I need to do water changes rather than just being able to clean the gravel. Shame really as it could have been so good - I like the dual depth capability and ease of use but neither of those help if it doesn't manage to actually do what you buy it for :( In summary: Expensive? Check. Well made? Check. Easy to use? Check. Effective? Not really.

Very quiet. Great bit of kit. I've had about 6 of the manual battery operated cleaners and all have eventually failed and just dont have the power. This Vac has everything, quick set up, two power settings, easy to clean. Quick efficient and well worth the higher cost, it looks like its built to last but only time will tell. Very happy with this

I bought this to replace a syphon water changer for my tank. Whilst expensive the gravel cleaner is well made and easy to use. The long power lead easily reaches the mains adaptor and there is an option to reduce the tube hight in shallow tanks. The cleaning action captures the dirt by passing the water through a filter pad. If the gravel starts to block the intake a gentle press on the control button pauses the pump allowing the gravel to fall back into the tank. Removing the filter gives access to the pump outlet which can be connected to a hose via the supplied adaptor. This then turns the unit into a water change pump. My only criticism is in an ideal world the adaptor would have a right angle so as the hose could be pointed upwards. Overall a good product despite being rather expensive.
