This product has now allowed me to do both without problems.I have big fat braids that a chest length. It was a little clumsy at first to fit the braid into the cap but once I got the hang of it, it has kept my braids dry while I swim. Of course the ends come out a little wet but there were also some wet bits with the normal swimming cap when I didn't have braids. All in all I'm quite satisfied.
