Thrills, spills and a handful of pills. It all adds up to one of the most spectacular car chases in motion picture history! Barry Newman stars as Kowalski, the last American hero, who set out to prove that he can drive from Denver to San Francisco in just fifteen hours. Along the way, he meets an old prospector (Dean Jagger), a snake worshipper, a nude woman on a motorcycle, and a blind D.J. (Cleavon Little) who "sees" danger ahead in this super-charged, action-packed adventure! Review: Great Movie - Great movie Review: One of the best car chase anti-hero movies ever filmed - I was 14 when Vanishing Point came out and got to see it on the big screen. A bunch of us guys went to the local downtown theater, back in the day when theaters only had one screen and showed double features. Honestly I have no memory of what the second movie was, only that Vanishing Point just blew us away. What makes the movie great is while the car chases and crashes were enthralling to watch as a teen-ager, as I got older and watched it again many times, you realize that the chases were really secondary to the plot and strong character development. Through flashbacks you become to understand Kowalski and his need to live on the edge. Many reviews cover the plot so I won't go there. Just note this movie is much deeper than a basic car dash-&-crash. The Blu-Ray version is definitely the one to purchase as it has both the U.S and UK versions of the film, the UK version being just a bit longer due to more plot development. The set has a number of special features, including a short film looking back on the film through interviews with Barry Newman as well as the director, stunt coordinator, and others. They even interviewed the "Nude Girl on the Motorcycle" about how she got the role and filming her scene. I believe the interviews were from 2008, so a great vignette as these people reflect on what became a cult classic. Without a doubt, one of the best movies of the early 1970's and a must have for anyone of that era. Another great aspect, even though the movie was filmed in 1970 and released in 1971, it really doesn't seem dated even in this special effect driven film era. It almost could be taken for a 2018 film about events in the early 1970's. Highly recommended.

Good to the original
Good movie, but seems to lack the excitement that we found on the Big Screen drive-ins.

Exciting early high speed road trip movie.
Compelling, slightly metaphysical Fast & Furious predecessor of subsequent Fast & Furious franchise.
