You can Trust McDavid
What should other customers know? First off, not everyone needs this brace. I've seen complaints that it's too bulky, which means those people needed a compression sleeve. As discrete as this brace is, it's not a compression sleeve. I understand that some people have a problem pulling it on or off. Buy one size larger. The laces will tighten the brace as much or as little as you need. I've heard that this brace is restrictive. Well, yeah. That's what you bought it for. It's a brace. The materials were specifically chosen to help keep your ankles in place while they heal so they don't roll sideways or twist again. The brace also conforms to the shape of your ankles. I assure you from personal experience with this brace that you will be able to walk confidently or if you are an active athletic person, the brace will stabilize your gait while you play your sport. All the technical data you need to know is listed in the advertisement here on Amazon. My Story with this brace is simple. I walked on a broken ankle all summer long when I was a kid. Not a choice you give to a child. Years later, I severely twisted that same ankle (twice). Genetic disorders being what they are, I searched for a good brace and found McDavid. I bought one for each ankle and pretty much wore them for 16 hours every day (not recommended by my doctor at the time). It took roughly three years before they started breaking down. I bought my current pair (pictured) two years ago. They've held up pretty derned well. The tongue (weak spot) tore the stitches because I pulled too hard (oops). The bottom seam of one brace has begun splitting recently because my right foot is turning (nothing McDavid can do about it). I generally switch the braces every time I put them on so the stress doesn't shape the braces to a specific ankle and I don't wear them all day anymore either. Just wear them for as long as you need them. McDavid is the first and foremost name I search for in braces. I can trust that they are dependable. If you need a good brace for temporary relief of inconvenient injuries, trust McDavid. These braces will get the job done.

I needed next size up.
I ordered a medium per their instructions of how to measure. My shoe size is mens 10.5-11 typically and I measured just barely below 9" for their instructions. I'm a skinny person and this was too tight for me (like cutting off circulation tight). I'm returning for a large. It does seem well made and is similar to my old mcDavid brace from long ago. So, you'll want the size larger if you're on the edge of sizes like me. Five stars for being heavy duty.

Best brace I could find
I have been playing basketball all my life and have chronically bad ankles from various injuries I have suffered over the years. I have been through many kinds of ankle braces in an effort to ward off new injuries, but these ones seem to give the best support for me. I've bought at least half a dozen pairs of these over the last 2-3 years. With ankles as damaged as mine, I'm bound to injure them even with braces on once in a while, and it has happened even while wearing these. However, I am sure they saved me from even worse injury. The price is much lower than some of the other brands like Aircast, etc. They do take some time to put on, but you get good at this quick. After playing in them 2-3 times a week for about 6 months, they get stretch and get 'soft' and are not as good a support as when they were new, so I buy several pairs a year. After a while the laces wear out from friction on the eyelets and may snap, but you can replace these fairly easily. All in all, a very good brace for the price, and I would recommend them.

Best of the bunch
I had a bad sprain a number of years ago, and after it healed as much as it was going to, the orthopedic specialist recommended an ankle brace for strenuous workouts. I bought what he recommended at a local store, and it worked very well. Fast forward a number of years, my brace is showing significant wear, and I try looking for a replacement. Unfortunately we've moved, and the local stores in my new location don't carry anything like my old brace. I try a couple of braces, neither of them work well, and I give up. About a month ago, my old brace lost structural integrity and the search for a new brace becomes a necessity. I again try the local stores and strike out. It finally occurs to me to try Amazon, and they have a number of well-reviewed braces. This is the fourth one I tried. The first was both ineffective and uncomfortable, the second was so uncomfortable I had to remove it after two minutes because my foot hurt so badly, the third provided sufficient support but chafed my ankle and was far more complicated than this brace. Now I've found what I was looking for. This brace is both effective and comfortable. After four miles, my ankle is fine, with no issues from lack of support or from chafing. It turns out that my old brace was an earlier version of this. It seems kind of old-school, but it works better than anything else I've tried, and I'm planning to buy another as a backup. A couple of suggestions for use: 1) don't tighten the bottom two holes very tightly, but really crank down on the next two, as this seems to provide the best balance of comfort and support; and 2) when removing, only unlace the top two holes and loosen the bottom four, as this will allow removal and speed up replacing it.

Great ankle support
I love the ankle support it provides, only downfall is with certain shoes it can be a bit difficult to wear. I find taking a shoe horn under the tongue of the shoe helps.

Nothing more than a canvas ‘sock’. It’s advertised as having ‘Steel medical stays for solid support’... where are they? I can literally roll the thing up into a ball with no resistance whatsoever! The picture seems to indicate that there are metal bars down both sides of the item which I thought would be perfect for my ‘wet spaghetti’ ligaments but it’s just stitching, nothing more. Also waited (or wasted) a month for it to be shipped from the U.S.... Returned and looking for something more suitable.
