How does this work with fitting it to the ceiling ?

You have to use rawplugs that you would use for an inside hollow wall; those ones with the little 'spring' bit sticking out at the side. Drill a small hole and tap these in; then you can screw the attachments with the rail in. The problem might be getting it straight. You need to find a constant line that you can draw a line in and then measure the length to decide the distance between each hole. Hope this helps.

Will it suppprt heavy curtails and open and close easily without getting stick?

i bought these for my living room ,i have 90x90 curtains but i would say buy extra brackets ,as for closing they are as quite as a rolls royce ,biggest problem is straightening it out good luck hope it helps

No but as long as fairly sturdy see no reason why it would not work.
