Review: Amazing progress in ability and confidence through this book!!! - For various reasons our daughter had fallen behind her peers in maths (p4), she struggled daily and had lost every ounce of confidence. Although I had purchased several maths workbooks to do at home she had given up before she sat at the table to do extra work, ending up in tears every time. Her teacher suggested that we try Power of 2, and I am so grateful she did. My daughter has gone from having no confidence to breezing through several activity pages getting every single question correct!!! It starts off fairly easy, which is brilliant because it builds the individuals confidence and makes sure all the fundamentals are in place before the activities get trickier. I have had her teacher comment to me in the last week that sheโs seen a massive improvement in my daughters ability and confidence, and I know exactly what thatโs attributed to! I have gone from spending an hour working through addition/subtraction/multiplication workbooks with a distressed child to doing three or four activity pages of the Power of 2 spending 15-20 ENJOYABLE minutes where thereโs big smiles for achievements at the end! I am still amazed by my daughters progress and confidence, I would absolutely recommend this coaching system. Review: The best workbook we have used - I hesitated to buy this book because of its price. That was stupid. My daughter is in Year 6 and finds maths hard. This book has helped her so much! It drills basic maths operations (+,-,/,x, x10, x100, number bonds, nearly numbers etc.) and thereby gives the child a firm foundation for more advanced work. It starts very basic, but if you do the entire book, it covers quite a bit. It almost unnoticably moves the child on to reasonably complex mental maths. My daughter used to make lots of small mistakes in tests and would sometimes forget the most basic methods. We have completed Power of 2 and she has improved immensely. She has gained a lot of self-confidence too. We are half way through the Power of Time now and my only regret is that there is no Power of 3 drilling measurements! Months later: My daughter got a score in the SATS which was above the national average and almost in greater depth. At the beginning of the school year her teacher had been worried she might fail. I can't recommend this series enough, if you do it for at least 30 minutes every day. We now always use this method to practice (correct answers 3 days in a row).

Really helpful for kids who struggle with mental maths
I m very pleased with this book - it has boosted my son's confidence a lot and number facts seem to be really settling into his brain. Number facts and mental maths have been very difficult for him as his short-term memory is not good and this is the first time I have found something that works. We keep the sessions short each day. I have a kitchen timer set for 15 minutes and he knows that if he concentrates hard we finish early at around 10-11 minutes which seems to motivate him. We also have their other book Perform with Time but that was a big disappointment. The method didn't work so well in the time book as it seemed to assume you already knew how to tell time and just needed lots of practice. This mental maths programme on the other hand gives tips and techniques as well as practice.

Helpful resource
Really helpful resource for working with a child who's struggling with number sense. Helps child gain sense of achievement as they progress through the activities. Not the most exciting but seems to be effective!

Very clever for really making the ideas stick
We were recommended this book by a maths teacher for our 10 year old who is OK with maths but has an entrance exam coming up so we wanted to give some extra help. When I started using it was I wasn't sure that it could do any good at all but was quickly surprised because even the 'easy' stuff at the start became a challenge just to see how quickly it could be done. An important thing to know with this book is that the word 2 in the title refers to 2 people not the number 2! So you have to be involved at all times thats how it works, this isn't really a book you can leave a child with on their own. But that is partly why the book works so well my daughter realy likes that we are together. The other key method the book uses is repetition and that works really well in imprinting the methods on the child's mind. I rate this as a 5 star because it has really worked well for my daughter and her confidence and speed have improved significantly.

Great confidence booster.
This is a very easy book 5 to follow. We set the timer for 10 or 11 minutes and go. It starts with very basic maths and repeats everything so ideas are cemented in their mind. My daughter has gained in confidence since we started. Definitely good for those struggling and great for parents who do not know how to teach them the basic concepts. It seems pricy but for the content covered and confidence it inspires it is worth it.

Wish we'd discovered this sooner.
My son is Year 6 and really struggles with maths. He hasn't grasped the fundamentals such as number bonds and so he has just fallen further and further behind. We've tried various work books/apps but nothing has really worked until we discovered Power of 2. It's simple for a parent to use with their child, you can do it in short bursts. It is more mental maths than writing things down. This works well for my son and my hope is that by going back to basics and really getting to grips with the fundamentals he will start to find maths more accessible. I don't know why it's not used in schools more. Would 100% recommend.
