A girl with anxiety disorder finds an unlikely friend -- and emotional support animal -- in the form of an adorable fainting goat. Twelve-year-old Marvel is afraid of absolutely everything -- amusement park rides, food poisoning, earthquakes, and that big island of plastic floating through the ocean. She also obsesses about smaller worries like making friends, getting called on by the teacher, and walking home alone. Her parents and the school therapist call her worries an anxiety disorder, but Marvel calls them armor. If something can happen, it will. She needs to be prepared. But when Marvel stumbles on a group of older kids teasing a baby goat that has mysteriously shown up on the soccer field, she momentarily forgets to be afraid and rescues the frightened animal. Only Butter isn't any old goat. She's a fainting goat. When Butter feels panic, she freezes up and falls over. Marvel knows exactly how Butter feels and precisely what Butter needs--her. Soon, the two are inseparable, and Butter thrives under Marvel's support. But Butter also helps Marvel. Everything is better with Butter by her side, and Marvel starts to imagine a life in which she doesn't have to be so afraid . . . until she's told she might have to give up Butter forever. Will Marvel find a way to fight for her friend? Or will she revert back to the anxious, lonely person she used to be? Review: Love - Love this book. My kids and I read it. Such a good story, and lesson. Review: Lovely book - Bought for my 11 year old book-loving daughter. She also loves animals but normally reads adventure, dragon fantasy and mystery books. I purchased this when she started showing increasing signs of low level anxiety in social situations: grabbing my hand in public when she didn’t used to, physically standing very close to adults, hair twiddling, speaking fast. She loved the book. She read it twice within a week and has read it a further two times in the last year. She recommended it to her head of year at school for children with anxiety and her teacher agreed it was a good book. It’s not a self help book or ‘in your face’. It’s reassuring content which children can relate to. Im so pleased I purchased it. A little humour and an unusual story hooks the reader. The quality of the paper and binding is great too.

Wonderful! Read this book now!
This book is so delightful! It’s really funny, super cute, moving and heart warming! Everything a book like this should be. It also gave me great insight into anxiety. I have a classmate - I’m in a graduate program - who suffers from extreme anxiety and I thought about her the entire time I was reading this. It has helped me understand her more and also recognize anxiety in myself and others when it arises. I think almost everyone can learn from and relate to this book. We all feel anxious at times, even if it’s over smaller things. This book manages to address intense feelings in a light-hearted way. I actually roared with laughter at times reading this book. I also cried. But don’t worry! It’s not sad. It just tugs on the heart - in a good way. If you love strong, empathetic characters, animals and just sweet, fun stories, you must read this book. A great book for the whole family! I hope it becomes a movie. It’s wonderful!!!

Wonderful book to help with anxiety
I just read this endearing middle grade book about a kid with severe anxiety and how an anxiety ridden goat helped her, just as she helped the goat, Butter. As someone who has social anxiety, I saw myself in these pages. As an educator, I know how much this book will help many of our students. Anxiety is real, even if we can’t see it, and this book gives us a powerful reminder. The story was cute and funny at times, and this helped make the story that much more human and meaningful. I have used this story to open conversations with my own children and I am thankful! My wife is my Butter, my GWOAT (greatest wife of all time) as she helps me get past my own anxiety.
