My reason for this purchase was as a gift. I thought that it would be a valuable educational experience for a young person interested in micro things. I know I would've had a blast trying out new things as a kid. Being open to new experiences outside of the Internet and social media is important. I didn't want to gift an item that I was not able to check out first, so I carefully checked out the microscope . First impression is that this is a wonderful starter tool for the aspiring scientist or even just the super curious young person. The magnification is awesome. I looked at a penny and some flowers. It's a whole different world in mini! Learning about the structure and appearance of a natural thing is especially interesting. Technology starts with the basics, so if someone is looking to advance their knowledge of technical things, they should start from the beginning. Comes with magnifier attachments, and best of all there are a box of plastic slides to use. Some of the slides have examples of natural things on them; such as, broad bean leaf, pine wood slivers and housefly legs(!). That was a surprise! So, you can use the microscope right away with the samples on the slides. Way cool! This durable microscope will definitely pique the interest of a young person in the family!
