EDITED: I bought two variants of this product, the brown and black versions (3 of each). The flexibility of the two colored envelopes is markedly different. The black leather is far more flexible than the brown version. Looking at both closely, it's clear there is some sort of stiffening layer sewn in between the inner and outer leather of the brown version where the black version is just leather. You can tell because the part of the flap on the brown version meant to fold over the cavity has no stiffening layer and you can feel where the stiffener begins and ends. Oddly, the black version comes with a cardboard stiffener in the envelope cavity as part of the packaging and the brown does not. It's almost like the manufacturer decided to sew in the stiffener on the brown version rather than insert it into the cavity as packaging. Anyway, these two different approaches are like oil and water to me. I'd get the black one again in a heartbeat, but not the brown in its current state ... the sewn in stiffener makes the product feel cheap and unnatural, and I question why it would be needed in the first place. It's not horrible and I'll use the brown for a laptop sleeve around the house, but it's definitely going to remain storage-only. The black version will travel with me and be used for public-facing needs. My review below is specific to the black version, and I'm keeping the five stars for that variant. My hope is that the black one is a newer version and eventually the current brown stock will run out and be replaced with envelopes without sewn-in stiffeners. Original review: Was really pleasantly surprised by the softness and quality of the leather for the price. It's not first grade calf skin, but you're also not paying four figures for this. At the price for a three pack, it's kind of crazy how inexpensive these envelopes are for what you get. Just the right trade off between softness and thickness that assume reasonable durability. Outside has a nice matte finish and the inside has a slightly sueded feel to the leather with an extremely subtle knapp. Soft enough for items that might scratch easily. Stitching was quite good from first inspection. We'll see how they hold up over time. These leather envelopes are the perfect size to fit a 13 or 14 inch laptop. A 14 inch M3 MacBook Pro, a 2020 Intel 13 inch MacBook Pro, and a 2020 Dell XPS 13 all fit nicely inside (individually) with the flap closed and sting wound. Might be good by itself, I've started using them as laptop sleeves inside my backpack. Absolutely fantastic for a set of important documents like a presentation or home closing docs as well. Not much paper these days to carry around, but to make a physical impression, this makes a good one. Durable for carrying around kid health forms to school and such. Otherwise, you can't beat it for the laptop sleeve use case. Highly recommended.
