Vandoren SR273 Tenor Sax JAVA Reeds Strength 3; Box of 5

Excellent reeds for both alto and tenor saxophones. They produce a rich, warm tone with great response across all registers, making them ideal for beginners and advanced players alike. Very consistent quality, and each reed feels well-made and durable. A reliable choice for everyday practice and performance.

My so plays the Tenor sax and this is the reed that is the “go to” each box has consistent quality and longevity of reeds. They are a bit on the procey side, but TOTALLY worth the investment.

I played tenor 35 years ago and swore by Rico Royal reeds. When I took it up again a couple years ago the sax I bought came with some old Rico Royals. They were just like I remembered, but I bought a box of new ones and they were uniformly disappointing. A sax player friend (who hadn't taken a 35-year hiatus) confirmed that their quality had suffered over the years. So I tried a Vandoren sample pack. I loved the Red Java reed, which had a rich & lively sound, but bought a box and none of them lived up to the promise of that first reed. I also liked the Green Java sample reed -- a little more mellow than the Red -- and tried a box of those. This time every reed in the box sounded great. And now I just upgraded from 2.5 to 3 and every reed in that box sounds even better, so I've found my new reed of choice.

Vandoren Java reeds are simply the best reeds for playing jazz and rock music. They have a very versatile tone, can be easily adjusted with a reed rush or reed trimmer, and last for 3-4 weeks! I use them with an Otto Link NY metal mouthpiece, and I get a sound that can easily "cut through" while still retaining "fatness" and "buzziness", both key elements to developing a jazz sound.

I liked this older design better than the red box jazz reeds.

I bought this for my teenager. He tells me that it sounds a little louder and it sounds jazzy. To my ears, it sounds smoother and more mellow. I'm not saying that they sound better or worse, just maybe easier on my ears. His siblings could not tell a difference. Anyway, here's the final verdict from my son: "Dad, they sound waaaaaaay better than the Classic Vandoren reeds! Thanks!" I read that these reeds are not recommended for classical stuff. If the music directors at his public school find out that he switched to a jazz reed, they may force him to switch back to a standard reed. IF they find out... ;-) Update 1/25/13: The band director told me that he's not allowed to play this Jazz reed in school. Only Classic reeds are allowed. :-(

Vandoren's are by far my favorite reed. Tried many but keep coming back to Vandoren greens. Can't go wrong with these reeds.

Las cañas Vandoren Java Green son ya mis favoritas pero, debo reconocer que estas del 3 no me sirvieron para mi boquilla de metal Otto Link, son un poco blandas. Pero pude adaptarlas sin problema a mi boquilla Rico Royal Metalite. Son cañas de gran calidad, respuesta inmediata, con buenos agudos y cálidos graves. No les pongo el 5 porque no cumplieron con el objetivo que buscaba pero, son cañas muy buenas.
