Rating is complex but i'm sharing my experience.
It's mild, but it did help with mental energy and focus FOR ME. It was a pretty clear but subtle benefit. I'm not a medical professional, but i was looking for something to help me a bit as i've gotten older, and generally look for things that appear reasonably safe you know like Coffee. I doubt this would do much for a person in peak health with a great diet and without any issues. I do think though if you are starting to notice things "slow down a bit", and your doing everything else right like exercising, sleeping enough and eating well this can help just a bit depending on what the issue is. I would absolutely prioritize exercise and sleep especially if your aging before that. I use to work out a lot when i was younger, that slowed down with family and my wife and picked that up again and honestly sleep and exercise are very related and make the biggest difference, but even on top of that this helps. I doubt it would be effective though w/o sleep or exercise. At least for me i'm entirely useless w/o sleep. I'm calling this out because my review is based on doing several things that already helped me before i took this. I also have a pretty clean diet. My experience with it is i take about 1-2 pill and it last 6-8 hours, and especially for a few hours after I think better, and have a bit more purpose. I take it a few time a week, not daily. I'm looking at it like fish oil almost. I've not noticed any sort of "addiction" or issues if i stop taking it for prolonged periods, and i don't think it's becomes all that less effective either over time. I put this in a bucket of probably if i ate more eggs or something it may do the same thing. I 'm not a huge meat eater. I eat some chicken, and that's likely a good part of my experience why this and by the way (creatine also mildly helps). I think saying this will help person X-Y depends on a lot of things. I'd say i noticed the effects with in 60 minutes which is pretty rare for me, so clearly it must have been a deficiency or related to some specific issues with me. It's not a stimulant it's very hard to describe i just seem to work mildly better. I'd ask my dr about it but i know they always say don't take anything just do it w/ diet etc etc. That's a bit too theoretical for me sometimes. I'd say maybe give it a shot, if it doesn't work with in a day or two i kind of doubt you 've got an issue. i'd have to imagine you'd need to eat quite a lot of this stuff (below) and the other issue is likely some people aren't so great at making this. It's kind of similar to DHA too in that way. The stuff i take is creatine, this, and fish oil in moderation. it's like 5% benefit exercise and sleep and diet is like 95% but frankly 5% is a lot, just don't forget about the rest (pun intended). ----here are dietary alternatives -- Citicoline (CDP Choline) is not found in large amounts in food sources, but it can be obtained through dietary supplementation. Some food sources that contain small amounts of choline, a nutrient that is the building block of Citicoline, include: Eggs: One egg yolk contains about 147 mg of choline Meat and poultry: Chicken and beef liver are particularly high in choline Seafood: Salmon, cod, and shrimp are good sources of choline Dairy products: Milk, yogurt, and cheese contain small amounts of choline Cruciferous vegetables: Broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts contain small amounts of choline

Just read the review
I've been dealing with cortisol insufficiency for some time. Energy, drive and focus ebb and flow. After doing quite a bit of research on dopamine and cortisol relationship I realized this might help me recover more quickly. After the first 250mg dose (45 minutes) I actually felt like getting up and doing something. I haven't tested yet but I suspect that I have a defect in an enzyme that plays a role in dopamine production and/or dopamine receptors are genetically under responsive as they might compare to someone without symptoms of low dopamine activity. Regardless, since cdp choline is found to support increased dopamine metabolism and (maybe more importantly) also supports increased dopamine receptor sensitivity, I had to give it a try. It has definitely helped me take more stressful days in stride, be far more productive, helped to better regulate circadian rhythm (I fall asleep like clock work after just a week) and recover from the day. My focus and drive are just so much better. I feel normal again. ********fast forward 3 weeks*********** After taking 250mg then upping it to 500mg then to 750mg daily (two upon waking mg and one midday) I began to get more done, focus increased further, my sleep cycles were great (asleep by 10, up by 4-5:30am). Everything was perfect and then I started getting these weird headaches that came from nowhere. Along with the headaches was a twinge of nausea also not like sickness nausea or from working out too hard. From past experience this can only be described as a dopaminergic nausea brought on by something neural. After digging a bit I realized that 750mg everyday was outrageous for my needs. I backed off thinking that the supplement was just not right for me after my mornings began to be characterized by doped up, sleepy and driverless. I felt like I took a flexoril the night before (they wreck me). After a few months I reluctantly started taking the product again but this time only 500mg at a time once every THREE days. I did this after learning that this supplement has a halflife (active in your body) of around 72 hours/3days. When I realized that I had just been overdosing it, everything go better. I now stick with 500mg every 3 days (Monday, Thursday, Sunday etc). I'm 190, athletic, and still recovering from sustained trauma mental and physical. Perhaps that helps give a better idea if you're going to use it this way. If you're having weird side effects back off for a bit then realize this is a lingering supplement that probably doesn't need daily dosing for most without serious neurological issues. Before I began dosing it correctly I would've given it maybe 2-3 stars but after working with it and then letting my mom (adrenal insufficiency and recovering from major back surgery) try it, definitely a 5 star product. Easy to misuse and misunderstand but works very well when you get it right.

Best product ever for recallโฆ..really
This is the only, I repeat the only thing Iโve found that REALLY WORKS.. if you loose a word, canโt recall a name, a place just the usual things. This is the best bandaid for recall. I typically end up with every bad side effect from any med or over the counter stuff, no side effects with this. I do think this works on a gut brain reaction. Iโm not a chemist but there is a relationship. I think the best way for me to relate the effectiveness of this particular product is to give it a percentage and it improves my recall by 80-90 percent.. Every time I have stopped it within days my brain farts came back..I havenโt tried any other form of this and it works so well Iโd pay triple to keep using it. I take one on odd days and two on even days unless Iโm doing something that I know I need more acuity then Iโll take two. Good luck isnโt getting older fun???

Almost a miracle in a bottle
First, my suggestion for initial use: Take on a weekend, wake up an hour earlier than you normally would. Have breakfast with Metamucil, wait 30 minutes and take 1/3 to 1/6 of a tablet with peanut butter, and then go to workout. First, working out and waking up earlier will help to make sure that this is wearing off early enough for you to go to bed. Taking with peanut butter covers the taste. The Metamucil will help with the GI problems and you donโt want to take it before thereโs food in your stomach or you can feel sick. This should be a gentle enough start so that you can work up if you need a full capsule. For me, the effects of a full capsule were WAY too overwhelming. Itโs great to know itโs working but not good to feel like your dying at the end. Second, proโs: Reduced pain, better focus, and motivation to go to the gym. The first kick of energy made me want to work out, then it died down and I was able to focus at the level of an engaging conversation but for mundane things. I also noticed reduced pain. This helped with weight loss because I couldnโt feel hunger pain as much. This also helped me with wearing glasses and contacts. After about 4-6 hours both would start causing pain or a headache (prescription is up to date and I went to the doctor about the pain already) but with cdp choline I could go through the day with contacts and be okay. Cons: you can sweat a lot. I had to drop down to a portion of a tablet because I was worried about dehydration from sweating. When your body is flushing it out you will poop a lot and sweat and itโs just not fun when it happens around people. The worst problem: the panic. I had to stop taking this in spite of the benefits because of the fear and panic I felt. At best I could lay in bed just trying to work through it. At worst, I went to the E.R. Because I thought that taking cold medicine 14 hours later meant I was going to die from my body shutting down after a google search. If it wasnโt for how bad my panic was at the end, I would still be taking it because all the benefits were such a miracle. Thereโs definitely no question about this affecting you body. The problem is how extreme it is.

Citicoline for Glaucoma
I have had open angle glaucoma for roughly 10 years; it's in my family as my grandfather lost an eye due to it. About 5 years ago I got iritus, an eye infection. The cure was steroid eye drops which besides curing my iritus, also raised my IOP to 29~30, and I lost some vision in my right eye. The part lost in just above and to the left of my center axis. If I am talking to some 3 feet away, and stare at their chin with my right eye, I can't see their forehead, but the area above this is ok. In the last few years I have been trying to learn all I can via the internet for help with my glaucoma. After listening to a webinar by Dr Kondrat, an eye specialist, I was quick to try this citicoline after hearing it could help. Well, it has. After 30 days I feel my vision is better. Mind you, the dark spot is still there in my right eye. Now, after years of playing the game of dominos, I can distinguish the different color dots on the domino tiles after years of seeing them all as black, besides the red, and yellow ones. It's kind of subtly amazing. My field of view is clearly better, more even. I don't have to look down so much while I'm walking fearful I trip over something. Whatever might be in my path I'm seeing with just the normal forward vision. My confidence has increased also, along with my libido! I am less apprehensive about driving being fearful I'll not see something. I've come to find out in Europe there are eye drops that are citicoline based under the trade name Visneurox. Be advise though, there is a washout effect. And that is, after you stop taking citicoline, the benefit will go away. So I plan on staying on them. I take 1000 mg's a day, or two caps with breakfast, and two with dinner. They are water soluble though, so you don't have to take them with meals. I am also about to start taking hemp oil for the neuro protective qualities which was also mentioned by Kondrat. Just Google "Kondrat - healing the eye", and you'll find his website - there quite a bit of information there. In the end though, you must take "ownership" of your condition, and do everything you can to help. Also know, there is no silver bullet. Good vision starts with good health, and that means nutrition, hydration, exercise, proper weight, and even mental health. Good luck.... update 8/18/15 - in trying to further help my condition I've come across Astaxanthin which seems to be very beneficial. Try Googling "Astazanthin for Glaucoma"

Bought for years but Jarrow was bought out by private equity firm in 2020
Jarrow, a California company subject to the strict manufacturing laws and regulations of that state, built a reputation over decades as a trusted USA supplement company. The company was purchased by a private equity firm, New Mountain Capital, effective 9/1/2020. From their website, the company "emphasizes growth and business building, rather than excessive risk and debt, as the best path to private equity returns.....Once an investment is made, New Mountain works to help management add value to its companies in order to create much larger and more profitable new mountains in their own industries." The founder and CEO of new mountain capital is Steven Klinsky, co-founder of the Leverage Buyout Group of Goldman Sachs & Company from 1981-84. Hopefully adding value to products, as part of the management goal, is done by promoting the health of customers as the company journeys on the path to greater global success. Personally the Citicoline purchased in the recent past no longer has any effect. The last I tried was ordered from Amazon on Nov 11, 2022. I threw it away after first calling the company to say that the product was no longer working, could I send back for a refund, i.e., perhaps the several bottles purchased hadn't been kept at right temperature or were from a problematic batch. I was told that Jarrow gives no refunds. What was the product do for me pre-buyout? From a early review on Amazon: "I began taking Jarrow Citicoline in conjunction with Jarrow Alpha GPC at the end of May 2014 because of cognitive symptoms that resembled those reported from long-term use of anticholinergics. I started the supplements based on reviews here on Amazon (thank you!) I noticed cognitive improvement within 24 hours." And that only got better.

Got this to go with Piracetam
I bought this product to take along with piracetam. I must not have needed it because it gave me horrible brain fog, and a very bad tension headache. I thought it was the piracetam at first, but I decided to scale way back on the piracetam amount, and leave out the choline. It worked like a charm. I think that maybe I am just extremely sensitive to substances of any kind, and this was just "too much" for me even in small amounts, and not at all necessary. I can't comment as to how it works for aging people, or people who have some kind of damage to their brains, or maybe even a vegan looking to use piracetam, but I would recommend trying regular ol' choline bitartrate first, if you are going to use this with race tams, and see how it goes before plunking down the extra money. Rookie mistake. It went straight to my head, and not in a good way. It's really too strong for a young healthy.

Not vegetarian but seller labelled as green dot
Labelled with green dot but capsule is made of bovine (meaning cow) gelatin. Very misleading and risky especially in India.
