Very helpful, will organized, and easy to read. One of the best.
Iโm the primary caretaker for my wife who was in the end of stage three MCI/early dementia. I bought this book because I had read somewhere, that it gave the patientโs perspective which I was very interested. I have not seen that in other books very much. Such as why do dementia patients sometimes feel angry at a loved oneor why they wander? This book does an excellent job and explaining the authors view for these things it was very helpful. I understand quite a bit better. But what really makes this a great book is how clearly itโs written, how clear the examples are and how well organized it is. For instance, the descriptions of the seven phases of dementia is very easy to read. It is detailed and easy to understand.. Iโm fairly new at this caretaker role but have been reading many books about it. This is one of the best that I have found. I highly recommend it.

Interesting Perspective
The section on understanding the perspective of the patient was very well done. It made me think, and that was the point. Itโs the survival part that was lacking to me. It seemed like that section of the book was more of an afterthought and was fairly obvious and unhelpful. Read any guide on the web and they can tell you about self care and support groups (neither of which youโre likely to have time to do).

Good information if needed.
Bought this book for my 93 year old Dad to give him some insight in dealing with my 90 year old Mom who recently had to enter a Nursing home. He has gone back and read many sections over to help him.

Just what I was looking for!
I have read several books about caregiving a loved one who has dementia and this is by far the best book I have read. The author shares both insights into what the different types of dementia are but most importantly both the steps you can take to provide care and also resources you can turn to for help. I highly recommend this book.

Straight forward, easy to read. Author is knowledgeable and organized. Every caregiver should read it. Recommended resources are in the USA so is different in Canada. But still well worth the read for the rest of the content.

Great information to have.

It's a basic, straightforward guide to dementia and how it might affect you as the caregiver. It mentions an 11 step plan to understand the disease etc, but these steps are not made clear in the text. It has a number of pages nagging you to leave a review which i find irritating and off-putting.
