Im 29" waiste (sz large) 36" hips (sz med) which size do i get?

I have a 35 inch waist and 47 inch hips. I bought the x-large and it fits perfect. Hope that helps. The material is forgiving.

Would these shorts work for running? Specifically, if I carried my phone in the pocket, would it fit snugly/stay in place, or would it bounce around?

In my opinion, the fabric is too thin to carry a phone while running. I don't know if it would fall out of the pocket, but would bounce around a lot while running.
