If you want to understand how to make a pop-up - this is the book for you!
I bought this book with a collection of others in order that it could be used for GCSE Graphic Products pupils to create their own pop-up books. This book features each possible mechanism that can be used for making a pop-up card or book. It starts off with the basics and moves onto more advanced methods of pop-up. Each example is made from white card stuck on a coloured base and has comments regarding the dimensions, angles needed etc. You can open out and see some of the more advanced items such as spinners, wheels, pulleys and string varients. This book is great in that it is 3D and not just a 2D drawing, this means that you can gain a better insight into the workings and quickly find a solution to what you need to create your own pop ups.

great book. helpful, examples of different types of paper folding and art
I really like this book. the first page has a great white pop up. open the book and the book shows small samples of each type of paper cutting to show its effect. such a great book for guidance. I will definitely use this book soon. I purchased it to make pop up books with my child in future. I ordered a different option than amazon and it arrived in good time, well packaged and new book price was better than other options and great item. thanks

The Perfect Guide to Pop-up
A must have for anyone beginning or developing with Pop-up design. This book has everything you need to know from the very basics to the more complex mathematically precise structures and includes pull tabs and wheels. As far as i know this is the ONLY book on pop-ups that explains how the mechanism works as well as actually showing it in a tab besides it, which is vital to understanding it. It is a very reasonable price considering how useful it is and how much I've been able to do because of it.

An amazing and captivating book
An amazing and captivating book! Forty-four sample pop-ups, very cleverly presented with the additional ultra-amazing pop-up work of art at the beginning. The fun-factor mathematical element is educational whilst absorbing. Each sample pop-up is accompanied by a short, but explicit write-up. If you like pop-up books, I highly recommend this book which demonstrates the engineering behind such publications.

Interesting book about pop up mechanisms
Very nice and informative book about pop-ups. Although it is a bit expensive (even used books) I think it is a must-have book for all pop-up enthusiasts. Basically it is an encyclopedia about pop-up mechanisms. You can even unfold the page and see the "entrails" of each mechanism and learn how it all works and is put together.

An overview of the different basic pop-up techniques
This is a great book if you want to have an overview of the different basic pop-up techniques. It's colorful/original and it distinguishes itself from other learning pop up books by actually showing the reader practical examples, that is, the book itself is a popup book. However if you're looking forward to "construct" something you'll be disappointed. The paper techniques are indeed there but a consistent explanation to its realization/execution is missing. In fact as a reader you're able to see the different constructions from behind but there's for example no drawings/planification of the different pieces and it's almost impossible not to destroy a construction if you actually want to see its structure and how it was built. Furthermore there are no examples of cards or books with the actual practice/implementation of these paper techniques. To sum up, it's more like a dictionary/catalog.

Consigliatissimo!

If you are considering purchasing this book, get it while Amazon truly has it in stock - actual availability of this book is spotty at best. When it was out of stock/backordered/available for pre-order, I ordered it only to have the expected delivery pushed back repeatedly. I even called and spoke with an Amazon rep who promised it would actually be sent on the date they claimed - it wasn't and Amazon eventually cancelled the order altogether. The situation was the same with other online sellers of the book - I tried ordering it from other internet booksellers and they did the same thing. I even tried to order it from an Amazon Marketplace seller who listed it in stock only to have them cancel the order because it wasn't available. After months of trying to get this book from ANYWHERE, Amazon finally listed it as being in stock, so I jumped on it. Availability issues aside, I do recommend this book. If you are just looking for a few design ideas, this probably isn't the book for you, but if you are looking to learn the actual mechanics of pop-ups, this is definitely the book to get. Think of this as a construction manual, not a design manual. It gives the ACTUAL pop-ups and a good description of how each each one works. It allows you to see each mechanism at work and to take them apart if necessary. Other books show photos or diagrams of the construction as well as photos of examples of each type of pop-up in use, but do not have the actual pop-ups that this one has. Actually having the pop-ups themselves makes this an indispensable tool. This book is also more complete than others that I have seen - it shows many more types of pop-up mechanisms than any of the others. There is one huge complicated pop-up at the front of the book incorporating most of the different examples into one awesome pop-up page. You can go to the author's website to download the individual pdf pattern files, although I think it would be much more useful if they were included on a cd with the book or if all of the pdf patterns were incorporated into a single .zip file for download. You can print the patterns and cut the mechanisms out by hand, or you can import them into the software for an electronic die-cutter (ie a Pazzles Inspiration, Craft Robo, e-Craft, Silhouette, Gazelle, etc) and let your machine do all the work, which is what I did. Overall, this is an excellent book to get if you are interested in learning to construct different mechanisms to use in pop-up books, cards or scrapbook pages. I do recommend supplementing this book with another one that shows you more design ideas. Despite not showing examples of how each element can be used in different designs, I give this book a 5-star rating. Amazon, however, gets a 1-star rating for horrible customer service with regards to this book.
