Now everyone can learn to take great pictures of the cosmos! The night sky is filled with immense beauty and mystery, and itโs no wonder so many photographers want to learn how to take great photographs of all it contains: the moon, stars, planets, galaxies, and beyond. But for photographers just getting started photographing the cosmos, some books veer into โadvancedโ territory way too quickly, filled with difficult theory and long, expensive lists of โmust-haveโ gear. If youโre just starting your adventure in astrophotography, The Beginnerโs Guide to Astrophotography is the book for you! Photographer Mike Shaw teaches you everything you need to know to capture great images of the night skyโwithout breaking the bank or needing an advanced physics degree. In this book, youโll quickly gain an understanding of the night sky, then dive into gear and settings. Regardless of the camera you own (smartphone, DSLR, or mirrorless), youโll be able to capture shots you love. Youโll learn all about the gear you absolutely need (and what you donโt) as well as the accessories that will make your astrophotography life easier. Then youโll dive into camera technique: exposure settings, focusing tricks, and composition techniques to get the shot. Youโll also learn about the best apps for astronomy, weather, planning, and navigation. Mike walks you through how to plan a shoot, set up for it, and capture your images. Finally, youโll learn the post-processing techniques that will have your images looking their best. Youโll learn how to photograph: โข The moon (full, crescent, lunar eclipse, solar eclipse) โข The Milky Way (the core, the central band) โข Constellations (Orion, Perseus, Scorpius, etc.) โข Asterisms (Big Dipper, Summer Triangle, Orionโs Belt, etc.) โข Star trails โข Planets (Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Mars) โข Aurora Borealis โข Meteors โข Satellites (such as the Internaional Space Station) โข Nebulae โข Star Clusters โข Galaxies โข Comets โข And more! Table of Contents Chapter 1: What Is Astrophotography, Exactly? I highly recommend this book. Review: Great Book for beginners - Kindle Edition reads well - Purchased this to learn night photography with my daughters. The original book was damaged in shipping. It was a beautiful book with amazing sample photos. But like another reviewer mentioned the text is a thin and light font on a dark background and for me was difficult to read. Since the book was already damaged we returned it and got the kindle version. Itโs been very easy to read and follow. And it looks to have most of the sample photos and diagrams. Which show up well even on an iPhone. So far weโve been very happy with the books content. And have leaned a lot. Much easier read than some of the other very technical Astrophotography books looked at. Yet very thorough and has answered all my questions so far. We like the book enough we may order another paperback just as a coffee table book and for the full size photos. Thanks again for a great book and for taking the time to make the Kindle version decent too.

Great Starting Point for Astrophotography Beginners
This book is an easy-to-understand guide on how to take photos of the night sky. On my first dark sky excursion, I was able to take reasonably good photos with a mirrorless cameraby following the recommended settings. We also tried the tips for using an iPhone, and we're pretty impressed with the results. Who knew you could do that with a phone?!! Now that I have put some of the basics into practice, I'll re-read this book and pick up some slightly more advanced knowledge on how to take night sky photos. I've learned so much from this book, so I highly recommend it.

Any Camera, as long as it is a DSLR...
The second part of the title is "How to Capture the Cosmos with Any Camera". After reading the book what that means is "Any Camera as long as it is a DSLR". It has one page on smart phones, nothing on smart telescopes or any other cameras, other than DSLRs.

A great book!
This is an amazing book that you keep it for life once you've read it! I'm definitely going back to it when not sure about something. Everything is explained clearly and without using any nonsense jargon. The quality of the book is great. Well-binded and the pages are from that sort of shinny paper instead of plain paper, which increases the quality this book is made. Definitely a primer for the ones new to astrophotography. If I had to add anything, it'd be some references to telescopes. I appreciate this book is focusing on DSLR cameras, because the author wants to make astrophotography accessible to everyone, but as a telescope owner myself, I'd like to learn something more about the use of a telescope for astrophotography from this amazing author. Buy it, you won't regret it!
