Actually not bad value
Despite some of the negative reviews for the tool chest I decided to give it a whirl - and I'm glad I did. So the unit is obviously made to a price, and that price is not expensive for a chest of this size. Yes, it's not the absolute highest of quality, and I expect that the quality might be variable between units. However, for something at this price point, that quality actually isn't bad at all (for my unit at least), if fact it's pretty decent. Yes, the panels are made from jointed and glued smaller pieces - but this is quite an acceptable practice and should not affect the overall strength of the product. It adds some interest to the look, and is a good way to use as much of the wood as possible - so gets my vote. On my unit the hardware seems fine - well fitted, and fair quality. The overall fit and finish is more than acceptable - and I'm pretty fussy. It's plenty roomy enough for the kit I had planned for it, so I'm pretty happy. If it does develop any faults? Well, at this price point it wouldn't really be surprising - I certainly couldn't make one for less - so any repairs or improvements required in time I would happily undertake and still believe I got value for money. To be clear, though, there are no apparent flaws at the moment - and I had a good look as a result of reading the negative reviews. Obviously I can only speak for mine but, I'd describe this as solid contruction, reasonable quality and fit for purpose. I'd certainly buy another if I needed to.

Large and heavy, and needed a bit of refinement
I had been wanting a new box along these lines for some time and as my old home-adapted affair was about to fall apart with nothing similarly adaptable available I decided to go for this one despite some reservations about its size. The build quality is OK but there are shortcomings: the top lock didn’t work at all until dismantled and re-assembled after a little filing down of sharp edges, and provides minimal security anyway as it’s easily removed with a screwdriver. The front panel had to be juggled with to close until sanded down progressively on the left side, and the key had to be removed when opening it as it could not otherwise be slid in at the base due to inadequate clearance provided by the small feet on the cabinet - resolved by adding two wooden skids between the feet at each end, which also facilitated sliding the box forward on the carpet from its storage position under my table top style desk as it’s far too big ( 510 x 270 x 404mm) to store on the desk and too heavy to keep lifting up anyway (nearly 10kg when empty). However by the addition of a lift stay in the top compartment I can usually access its contents with one hand from my desk chair without such sliding, provided I keep it positioned such that the forward extremity of the open and stored front panel is level with the front edge of the table top and to one side of where I sit. The overall design also has a silly shortcoming in that there is wasted space between the drawer handles and the front panel when that is closed. To provide the multiple compartments I required for small items I turned to a twin pack of plastic organiser boxes with adjustable dividers (by FFowcye) . After removing the lids and trimming the no longer required catches and hinges one fits tightly in each of the large drawers while still leaving a useful 40% of each of the deeper drawers for larger items.

Looks ok but not fit for purpose
This is no Gerstner nor even a Grizzly, but for the money I didn't expect that kind of quailty. It's definitely not a machinists box, I'm a machinist and wanted it for putting tooling in, not possible. It's build is pure rubbish, all the side timber is jointed and glued together, handle held on with M4's and just into a couple of millimetres of timber, lock arrived broken. Look, it'd make a nice box for arts and crafts or sewing gear but its not up to taking any kind of weight. I didn't mind the poor finish, broken lock and stupid way the handle was fitted as all these things can be sorted, my main problem is all the superfluous joints in the side timber, it looks like it was made from scrap wood and gives me no confidence to put tooling into it.

Great for the price !
Nice wood chest / toolbox. I was a little concerned about some of the comments for this but no need. I'm very pleased with it, nice looking chest, well made, with lots of storage. Ok, perhaps it's not the high quality that you'd get with some of the more expensive boxes but for the price it's really good. Nice wood colour, like a mahogany and all drawers are green felt lined, came well packaged, Great !!

Worth the price
Must be made in Asia at that price and still make a profit. Is pretty good, top lock is rubbish but never locked my last when not retired, keys get lost easy in a busy workshop. No complaints.

Very poor quality. The wood splits making the drawers hard or impossible to open. The top won’t close completely. I bought it for my colored pencils, which is bad enough and they are very light. I can’t imagine using it for heavy tools.
