A great head unit for wireless CarPlay or Android Auto
I purchased this head unit end of 2024 and it has been flawless so far. It is a double din chassis size and will most likely need a separate facia panel dependant on your vehicle. I have installed it in a 2009 VW Scirocco and bought a double din fitting kit from Dynamic Sounds. This kit included everything required to ensure steering wheel controls worked, a DAB aerial, aerial adapters and a wiring harness adapter to convert from VW specific to ISO which is what the Kenwood unit takes. The sound quality is great, when connected on android auto (unfortunately cannot comment on CarPlay use), it connects via bluetooth and local wifi to ensure stable connection and I have not had it cut out ever. Screen quality is good for the money and size, it is high enough resolution to read text clearly and display maps/album covers without being fuzzy. This is often the case on cheaper headunits with a lower resolution screen. The speed of the unit is quick enough, the time it takes from start-up to loading up android auto is about a minute, if you are using the radio or DAB+, this is even faster. The touch screen is responsive and the anti-glare coating works decently. Setup was straight forward once the wiring has been completed, there are plenty of youtube videos out there to help with installing headunits. Changing connected devices is also easy and works. One bonus with this Kenwood unit is its short chassis, which leaves more room behind the unit for the jumble of wires that are required due to various adapters. It is compatible with many inputs and outputs, this varies from cameras, video outputs, 3x RCA outputs at a decent 2.5V and more. The inclusion of 3 RCA out was what got my interest in this product as it means upgrading the sound system in the vehicle is easy, with a pair of RCA outputs for each the Front, Rear and Sub speakers, these can be ran straight into an external amplifier. Another thing to note is the great tuning capabilities built into the software itself, time alignment makes a massive difference to how the car sounds, inclusions of crossovers, sound profiles and sound effects are all added bonuses. Overall, I would recommend this headunit for anyone wanting reliable, clean sounding and simple to use, wireless CarPlay/Android Auto.

Great quality head unit
Brilliant head unit. Fitted it myself which was probably easier than it could have been as it replace an older Kenwood/Garmin unit. It still through up some challenges and a little wire soldering was required. Once in though it looks fantastic. Clear and modern. It doesn’t have its own sat nav built in but uses apple car play or android auto from your phone but the connection is seamless and wireless and is so simple to use it’s all you need. The screen quality is first class. The sound quality is awesome too. A step from my last unit. Set up was easy.

Top Tier!
Love the ease of use, the colours, the instant response time, and the display fits in really well with the rest of my interior which is something I'm always concerned about with aftermarket head units. Wireless CarPlay is seamless.. so much easier than USB(!) although you do still have that option with this unit. I use Google Maps a lot and for me, having an older car made this a faff before using my phone and cradle but now Maps just boots up nice and easy on the big screen! The audio is fantastic too, it's really clear with no muffled sounds. I can't fault this product at all! I think it's great, well worth the money for quality and convenience.

All The Functions I need
I did quite a bit of research when looking for a new stereo to fit in our Nissan Elgrand, this Kenwood 7722DABS was the one I decided to buy as it as functions such as DAB, Android Auto and the fact I can connect two phones to it, I had it professionally installed because the Elgrand is an import and a bit complicated to install new head units in. Once fitted I found it easy to navigate the screen, connected both mine and the wife's phones, I am not going into everything this does as you can just read that in the products information above. So are there any negatives? at first I thought I had a rather big negative and that was I could only pick up one radio station in both standard and DAB, it would in DAB list pick up loads of stations but all displayed "waiting" except one station and that kept cutting out. I contacted the installers and they had no idea why it was not picking up DAB, I had a Kenwood DAB antenna fitted so it should all be ok, I contacted Kenwood who I have to say where very helpful, they said it was very unlikely to be the unit as both radio and DAB are separate within the unit, they did say that they would happily replace it, but I decided not to do that until I had made a few more enquiries. So to cut a long story short the radio is probably down to the factory fit antenna, the DAB on the other hand was down to my dash cam which sends out some kind of signal that interferes with the DAB reception, unplug it and I can pick up all the stations, the solution was to fit a ferrite cable cap which stops the interference, so if you get the same and have a sat nav try unplugging it to see if it makes a difference.

This unit has a fogging screen issue that seems to effect all of the units.
Very disappointed with the screen. The screen will fog up in even vaguely cold weather conditions. It's 7 degrees C today and it has fogged up. When the fog is present the text of the satnav etc on the screen is blurry. It takes about 30 minutes for the foggy screen to dissipate if you blast the heaters but obviously that's not great for short drives (or for fuel economy either!). Bear is mind also, that this is my second purchase, the first one I returned because it fogged up and I thought it was an issue with my particular unit. But clearly all of them do this. It's very frustrating because it is such a technical effort to install them in the first place. You do all that work to get it fitted and it's not a good picture. Even worse if you'd paid someone else to fit it for you because then you'd have to pay for them to refit something else. I'm in two minds now whether I return it and get a different brand (and have to deal with all the faff of the return plus learning how to fit a different media unit) or just put up with this one. So yeah, I really cannot recommend this if you live in the UK because the screen is so dissappointing. It's a shame because the rest of it seems okay (although the DAB radio UI is terrible). The fit is fine, the touch screen is passable but quite sluggish. I'd say it's very expensive for what you are getting, especially with the screen issues as described. Other people have picked up on this screen fogging issue online so please research before you buy, it's really not worth the hassle in my opinion and I wish I hadn't given it a second chance.

Mega system! CarPlay is a game changer!
This is my first CarPlay system and its mega. The unit is very swift and very user friendly. I love having the big screen to help with the navigation. The wireless connectivity also means less cables around the dashboard which is a huge bonus. The option to see your contact on the screen is also great just in case you do need to make that important call on the move. The connection to apps like Spotify are instant and helps to get the tunes up and running straight away. The sound quality is very crisp and it was very easy to connect it up to my other other Kenwood speaker products. After a little bit of tweaking with the EQs I got the sound exactly where I wanted it. Overall I'm chuffed and this will make driving the wagon all that bit better. Super fast delivery from CarAudioSecurity too. Cheers guys.

Great upgrade bringing CarPlay to any car!
I have recently upgraded to this headunit and it has been well worth it! I now use all my favourite Carplay apps like Spotify and Waze, even on the shortest of trips due to the ease of the wireless feature. This also saves having cables all over the dash of my car! The speed everything syncs up is amazing. It is super easy and quick to change between settings and features (specially whilst driving), allowing you to revert back to DAB if desired. The audio quality is also extremely crisp and clear and works extremely well with my upgraded audio and Kenwood underseat sub! Great upgrade and would highly recommend to anyone wanting to add DAB or Carplay to the car.

Good cheap option but has some issues
Using for CarPlay is good but not without issues. It does not support pinch touch for zooming in and out. The gps receiver is not great and fails to connect 40% of the time, requiring you to plug phone in by wire. I would but a better one before install. Sound quality is great when you can dial in the best settings. Even with my stick speakers I’m happy. It fits very well but I had to get a housing to fit my car. Picture quality is also good.

Absolutely amazing quality unit!
The unit is great quality build, clean vision. I was shocked how good stock 2 ohm speakers now sounds. Fitted to a 2006 Nissan Murano. Had to modify slightly aluminium bezel frame of the OEM console, but nothing dramatic. Also, Kenwood has a great feature, called Direct steering wheel controls. There is no need to buy additional SWC adapter, if you own japanese or korean car. Just need to get 90 degrees angled 3.5 mm stereo jack, and to connect the wires to your car harness (info can be found over the Internet). Strongly recommended, especially when the price is good!

Optische & Technische Aufwertung
