You could make alcohol but bread yeast has a low resistance to alcohol so it will self sterilized at a very low abv and impart strange tastes. It's Ill advised to use it for that purpose when brewers yeast is cheap and champagne yeast will give you way better abv results

Why so much more expensive than other brands?

I really want to like this yeast based on so many great reviews. So I bought 6 packages in July but did not have the opportunity to use until this week. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find the best by date. I know that I can test the yeast, but I shouldn’t have too. .Bad packaging. ANNOYING.
