Sturdy and backward-compatible
I bought this to replace a previous Ames hose reel that was leaking after about 20 years. The new model fits on the same bolt pattern, which was important because the bolts are set in a stone-faced wall. It doesn't leak, is very sturdy, and the all-metal construction lasts for a long time. I have a 50 ft hose but it could hold more. The little tray on the top is nice for holding the spray head and an secondary sprayer.

Great metal hose reel.
I am quite happy with this metal hose reel. I bought it to replace a failed AMES plastic reel that I had mounted in my front yard. The plastic eventually got baked and the corners failed. This is my second one. I have one in my backyard that has been there at least a decade. It was easy to mount and came with appropriate screws, which was not mentioned in the description.

Good looking and super functional!
I really like this hose reel, works effortlessly in rolling up your hose for quick storage. I replaced the same model that lasted 10 years with plenty of use. Made with long lasting materials and look great. Pre-existing holes on mount matched up perfectly to the old reel which made the swap super easy.

Sturdy and well made
I purchased this item at a local home improvement store a couple years ago. Unfortunately this year when I was looking for another one for the front of my house, they no longer carried it. I found it here on Amazon. It is very sturdy and well made. It can hold two hoses. It winds up very easily. It is also a nice looking hose reel that looks very nice on the side of my house. I haven’t had problems at all with this product. No leaking, no rusting, no breaking, it’s perfect.

Not sure how to rate it
I’m not at all sure how to rare this item. We bought our house 18 months ago. There were two of these already on the house. One suddenly locked up. It would not turn. It did not appear to be that old (4-8 years=?). I took it off and took it apart. Finally bought a replace the. I wanted to get the same model to avoid drilling new holes in the brick mortar. The new one went up easy and has worked fine. This unit costs more than some alternatives but I wanted to avoid putting more holes in the house. The other original is working fine. It seems sturdy. I don’t know if the failure of the one that was here was a freak thing or if it is prone to failure. It was more than I would pay. But maybe it is worth it. I have had cheap plastic hose storage units and they are more trouble than they are worth.

NOT Worth the price
[Original review]Solid construction, easy install, nice design detail to upgrade from all the plastic ‘rubbermaid’ hose caddies out there; well designed mechanics for the plumbing, substantially improved over old plastic designs. [UPDATED REVIEW] The Ames “Neverleak” premium hose caddy has a fatal design flaw at the Achilles heel of the basic unit structure: a plate that is the only mechanical connection insuring integrity of the sides being held together; that plate has a circular ridge that rides in a groove as the central hose reel rotates, wearing constantly whenever the hose is drawn out or returned. WHEN, not if, that $2 part wears down, the >$100 “Neverleak” unit becomes “Certainleak” — yet Ames will not replace that part, rendering a $100 unit functional trash. Promoting that unit as “Neverleak” without disclosing that a small, inexpensive but critical component wears out and can’t be replaced is irresponsible marketing. Or worse.
