Long throw, crisp image. Overall happy with it.
Just received today. The system overall is easy to setup, however to fine tune it is a bit harder. Image quality: The colours are very good even without a projection screen. This is WUXGA (1920×1200) so it handles 1080p. This is I believe a "long throw" projector so with the projector about 3 meters away the image is about 2-2.5 meters width (it is possible to adjust the image size through the knobs) at the largest settings (it's larger than most TVs already anyway so I am quite happy with that). Another knob adjusts the focus but it requires fine hands to get it to the sweet spot. I still need to learn how to make full use of the image because I see there is "extra" available screen that is not used. Sound: The sound is not bad at all, but I prefer using my own sound system. If you connect to the computer, right click on speakers and set your audio output to the computer speakers, then plug into the jack whatever sound system. Ease of use: The remote control makes it easier to navigate through the settings. Adjusting the leg angle (i.e. angle to the horizontal) automatically puts up a setting on screen to adjust the image shape. I think it would be nice if that setting didn't dissappear so quickly because the time it takes to adjust the angle carefully and fiddle the settings. Other than that, the manual provided is on a CD, so you can find the manual online if you don't have a CD reader on your PC. Other thoughts: The fan makes does make some noise (esp. if you are right next to the projector), but it is much quieter in ECO mode. In the normal mode, the image is clear even if there is sunlight outside, but ECO is more than enough in evening/night conditions. I think it's a great projector, it is definitely portable enough to take it in the travels, which I intend to do. Overall good value for the money.

Real home cinema under £500
Bought this projector after having returned a cheaper Acer. Super happy with this purchase. Now I get it why they say that hardware alone is not enough to make a high quality product. I've seen alternatives with same or better hardware at the same price range, but the overall experience was poor. I'm unsure whether Epson is considered a "branded" projector, but the optimisation has been done very well, for my taste. Obviously for a proper experience, it really depends on every particular setup, unlike a TV set, which is kind of a plug-and-play. I've set up my projector around 3m away from the wall, the screen size output is about 2-2.5m, that's about a half of a pretty large wall (see pictures). Even though I've got a white rollable screen mounted to the wall (1m wide), I ended up rolling it up as the picture was so much bigger. *Colour* My wall is painted pale olive, and I would never expect a movie to look decent on it: surprise number one - everything is proper colour, even snow is really just white. No rainbow effect (or whatever it's called when, especially in the dark scenes and especially when something moves in that scene, the eye is able to detect red and green for a fraction of a second). The colours are really clear. *Resolution* Resolution is just great for movies, I've hooked it up with Amazon FireTV stick (HD Ready quality) and my Playstation - both look really crips and clear. Image quality was my main concern when I saw WXGA in the description, as I'm used to 4K and Full HD screens that I work with. But apparently the projector image is a bit different type to compare with TV. A projector outputs a larger image, where "HD Ready" resolution is quite enough to create a stunning cinema effect. *Brightness* Image is really bright even with the lights on: it takes it a minute to get into full strength, but then 3+K lumens pay out every single penny out of your pound. I never watch movies in a complete darkness (because I like to eat or drink tea at the beginning of a movie), and having lights on or off doesn't make much difference. At full daylight in the winter, when it's normally a bit less sunny outside it's still fine. But on a really sunny day I guess (haven't had one yet :) London here...) visibility will suffer quite a bit. Actually no surprise, in daylight it's equally hard to see stuff on a TV screen. See attached pictures, they are taken in the daylight on a rainy day. *Keystone* It's not an obvious but important component, especially not obvious to those who haven't used projectors in the past: depending on the tilt of the projector, output image gets distorted. With this make/model it's really easy (mostly automated, but if you feel like it, you have full manual control) to correct it back to an evenly shaped rectangular. *Noise* My other concern was the annoying fan noise. I'm very ear-sensitive, always get annoyed by any sound that's I didn't pay for. Well, fan noise is present in this model and it's pretty annoying. I changed the settings to operate in ECO mode (under the "ECO" section in the menu), sacrificing a bit of brightness and a lot of fan noise, but it's still present. I wouldn't call it so annoying anymore. In the very quiet and suspenseful moments of a movie, the fan sounds just a tiny bit louder than two people breathing (I watch movies with my wife who also breathes) and quieter than a single person munching. Alright, this is not a disappointment, but one of the two cons this projector has. *Speaker* Don't know who wants to watch movies with just a single speaker embedded into a projector, but if you are that person, you won't like it big time. Then again, it's bearable: no super loud or crisp sound, but not so bad for a do-it-all type of machine. It is the second downside of this projector. *Energy efficiency* No idea yet, but by the amount of fan noise I'd expect this bulb to burn quite a few kWh. TV's are probably more efficient in that sense. *Integration* I could use one more HDMI output. Also haven't figured out how to output sound directly from the projector into my speaker over a cable: I do have the suitable cable, but nothing happens when I hook the pieces up. I've got a bluetooth speaker and Amazon Fire TV stick can handle it just fine. There's a USB port which is also pretty convenient to power all types of dongles (Chromecast or Amazon FireTV). Built-in codec support is lousy (I couldn't play any video from a USB drive, I see the .avi, .mkv and .mp4 files, but it tells me that none of them can be reproduced). I don't know anyone who would actually just want to watch his own media on a projector. Well, unless you download movies to a PC, in which case Plex and Chromecast/Amazon TV is your solution. One thing that's not really obvious is how to mount this thing onto something. I don't want to spend 100 pounds buying a ceiling mount, and I already have some photography equipment laying around. Unfortunately, the device doesn't have lots of holes in it that I could use to attache it. I mean, how hard is it to drill a few more holes on the bottom and let people just mount it where they want it. Anyways, that's not a biggy. My overall impression is that I'd buy this again if I lost the one I already own.

Great quality for Movies & Console games. Noisy fan in normal mode.
I replaced a cheap 1080p Chinese projector costing around £200 with this. The image difference is noticeable, this is both brighter, much sharper and uniform. I'm pleased I sent the Chinese projector back. If you can afford to stretch your budget to this entry level projector I would recommend doing so. My only real complaint is the fan noise. We have the projector mounted just above our heads and it is almost unusable in normal mode without headphones. In Eco mode it's perfectly fine but still noticeable in quieter moments. Positives - Great image quality - Easy to set up - Compact form - Good eco mode Negatives - Very Noisy if mounted close to viewing position.

Der Beamer U05 von Epson kann normalerweise Full-HD. Dieses Gerät dagegen nur WXGA(1280x720 bzw. 1280x800).
