Review: Great Drive - This is the second WD Red Plus drive I have and never had any problems whatsoever. I have used other well known makes in the past but they have been a little hit and mis.
Review: Great Value and Highly Recommended - I recently picked up this Hard drive to go into my Ugreen NAS, and it has been great. I bought it specifically to host my Plex media server and also to keep all my private files safely stored away. I'm really happy with this purchase as it's doing exactly what I needed and I feel it was good value for money. The first one I received was actually faulty and my NAS didn't recognise it at all, but the seller was brilliant and replaced it straight away without any fuss, which was a huge relief. When it comes to how the drive performs, it’s reliable and the speeds are decent for what I use it for—it handles streaming from the Plex server with no issues. Even though I had a slight snag with the first one being faulty, the quick replacement service means I still highly recommend this Hard drive to anyone looking for one.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this WD Red drive backed by WD's 3-year limited warranty? I don't see it in the product description.**
A: I had an issue with some of the WD Red drives I had purchased through Amazon...
I had a failure and contacted WD for replacement under warranty...
I was told that the drive I had only had a one year warranty period not the three year.
The drive serial number started with WD and that indicated it was a drive from a single disk NAS.. those have only a one year warranty
Where the other drives carry the 3 year.
What is the difference in the drives i can not say or tell from looking at them and no other information was provided by WD.
I was told I needed to go back to the seller and see if they would fix the issue.
Since I've bought a number of drives over the last three years one at a time and registered them with WD, I didn't mark each drive and could not tell which drive came from what seller since the invoices didn't indicate the serial number of the drives.. I have 4 other drives in that situation. Since it was registered at the time I received the drive I know it was within the 3 years but after the 1 year warranty that WD would support. I had to buy a replacement.. Thing is that all the drive were in WD boxes and sealed in static bags.

**Q: Can this drive be installed into an external HD case and used as a single drive media server or does it have to be installed in a NAS case?**
A: It's designed for continuous use and not intended to be shut down and restarted on a routine basis. Those that say that they lack the performance of a desktop HD is just not true. they have similar performance characteristics with most 5200 RPM drives. One typically doesn't put a 4TB drive in a PC as a system drive. Usually, you would use a 1 TB drive that are typically 7200 RPM, which does provide better performance. If you really need that much space in your PC (system or otherwise) you're better off not using a NAS drive, something like the Seagate Barracuda.

**Q: Why is this more expensive than an external wd 10 tb drive such as: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=wd+10tb+elements+desktop+usb+3.0+external+hard+drive&re**
A: The retail storage market is more competitive. NAS and Enterprise drives meet 24/7/365 read write reliability benchmarks and typically have a 3-5 year warranty. Retail consumer drives may in some cases last as long as NAS drives, but typically will have a shorter warranty. Note that liberating a hard drive from a retail external enclosure (to use in a PC) would likely void the drives warranty altogether.

**Q: Can this drive be used to replace the internal hard drive within the apple 3tb time capsule?**
A: Depends if it uses a 2.5in or 3.5inch drive or not. Specs are probably fine but need to know what size of hard drive it takes. Based on the dimensions of the apple device, it might accommodate this. Based on the apple dimensions, I would be surprised if it uses 3.5in drives but it isn't impossible.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Drive

This is the second WD Red Plus drive I have and never had any problems whatsoever. I have used other well known makes in the past but they have been a little hit and mis.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Value and Highly Recommended
*by N***A on 12 October 2025*

### ⭐ Wrong part number in box, WD refusing to register the warranty
*by G***T on 28 October 2025*

The part number received on all three drives I ordered is WD40EFPX-68C6CN0, written on the sticker and in the firmware. The part number on the box, and on the Amazon listing is WD49EFPX-SPC6CN0. The drives work fine but the WD website is refusing to register the warranty for the drives. I raised a support ticket the day after delivery. 10 days later they replied saying they will not register the warranty because the drives "correspond to a different region." I've called Citizens Advice and they have advised under the Citizens Rights Act 2015 I am entitled to a refund under two different bits of legislation. This is going to be a massive pain because they are already in use with data on them. Massive hassle so far, definitely avoid. I'll update if WD change their mind. UPDATE: Western Digital support have done a 180 and have manually registered my drives for warranty. The review remains 1* due to the product bought not being the product received, and the inconvenience to me that has caused. There's been no interest from Amazon nor WD to fix the item listing so this will happen to everyone else too.
