Does the bread fit in properly sideways, so it toasts all the bread without missing a bit ?

No, it doesn’t. Warburtons Toastie bread does not fit sideways and a good 25% sticks out of the top when put in straight. The only reason I bought this was based on the previous reviewer saying that Warburtons bread fitted perfeclty. LIES! Do not trust.

Is this a thick/thin toaster? Will it take crumpets?

i have done both in this toaster and crumpets they take a little longer to toast....
