I do a lot of hand sewing and at the moment I’m hand quilting and need a thimble to protect my finger. I can’t use normal thimbles but the clover ones I can become they have a soft silicone cover which I hardly notice on my finger. The metal end tip catches the needle in the right place, and with the dimpled base, the needle sits in the right place for how ever you sew. I have tried so many different plastic and metal thimbles, but I can only ever get on with the clover variety. Please note with the clover thimbles that they come in different colours. The colours represent different finger sizes. I have an average size fingers so the pink one does me fine. I do find if I’ve been stitching for hours, the silicon becomes even softer and a bit bigger on my fingers, also the same if I’m stitching outside in hot weather, but I can still use it, it’s not such a snug fit which I like. So, you can draw a circle on paper that is 17.5mm across (diameter,) cut it out and poke your finger in to check if it goes in nicely or get 17.5mm of string or thread and make a loop and do the same. I am a man and it fitted me perfectly but it might be a little loose on a ladies finger. Or, even better, you could order both and return the one that you don't want. I am glad I ordered mine because it is really good quality and will last me for years. It doesn't make your finger sweaty either.
