What's in the box? Does it come with any filament? I’ve seen reference to a cover but not seen one itemised, does it have one?

Tools, 2 nozzle 0.4 mm and a coil of 250G of white PLA+. It doesn't come with any cover and not sure it is itemized.

Is the software provided with the printer compatible with the ouput from a scanner?

The M5 comes with Ankermake’s own slicer which will accept a range of standard 3D model file types. However you need to use a 3D modeller such as Tinkercad (which is free) or one of the more complex licensed programs which you pay for. I am not clear what sort of “Scanner” you are talking about, if you mean a 3D scanner or any App that utilises your phone as a basic scanner, then it will undoubtedly be able to generate a file that would work in 3D modelling programs or directly with any 3D printer. If you mean a flat bed scanner / printer/scanner, then it is possible to generate an OUTLINE of the object and convert it into a form that can then be extruded in 3D modelling software. There are many YouTube videos explaining how to do this but essentially you save your scanned object outline as a .PNG file and then use a free online service such as Adobe express to convert it to a .SLV File that can be imported into 3D modelling software. As far as I am aware it’s much more difficult to do this if you want an output from the scanner that has a lot of complex internal detail
