A few drops of water onto the wood will give an indication of how it would look. Natural has a touch of white pigment to counter that effect and therefore have minimal impact on the appearance of the wood. Can I use on my kitchen table and will it protect from rings caused by hot coffee or tea mugs?** A: I would have assumed so, ie that it would work just as well as on tables as kitchen worktops. However, having only just purchased/applied this specific product I've not had chance as yet to gage its performance over a period of time. Respectfully, however, I do consider the only real way to keep wooden surfaces totally mark free from the rings created by hot mugs and the like is to have place mats strategically placed to obviate the problem. That said, one of the reasons I have historically (baring one occasion – which caused me to learn the lesson!) always used the silk as opposed to matt finish for such surfaces, is that the silk does seem to provide a greater level of protection against the ever-present risk of ending up with brown water staining, in particular, on wooden kitchen worktops, when water is allowed to 'sit'. You'll appreciate, in a holiday cottage the worktops are potentially subject to greater wear and tear, perhaps from guests unaware of the need to look after wooden worktops! If you go ahead and purchase this product, the means of application is so, so easy, compared to how it's been done before, ie either with gloss roller or paint brush; once prepared, you can certainly make an application of the Osmo sealer very quickly with a lint-free cloth. Trust this helps. **Q: Is this needing topping up every couple of month's like Danish oil and can you wipe your worktops down with normal multi surface cleaner like cif** A: You will need to re-apply the finish every so often, due to this being an oil. The cif cleaner will strip the oil, the osmo wash and care is recommended for cleaning, or warm soapy water. We dipped our Victorian doors and I lived the pale colour but knew they needed some moisture. This product does that. The doors look amazing. It does bring them up darker, but it is only their natural colour. It goes on with a brush really easily and you can see where you’ve added it and the wood suck it up. I wanted a slight lustre and I really like the finish, it’s Matt in essence apart from the grain has a slight sheen, it’s not shiney or like a varnish at all. I would say, this isn’t the cheapest option. The can is much smaller than I’d anticipated and is expensive at between £17-20 per 750ml. We goth through 5 cams to do 10 doors (back and front). I had thought it would be like a natural oil but it’s more like a varnish, you’ll need white spirit to clean brushes and dust sheets if your not taking down doors. It’s very sticky so I’d also wear gloves. It is very strong in smell too, so you’ll need a well ventilated room. I’d definitely use this product again. My brothers a professional decorator and recommend that I use Osmo and I wasn’t disappointed. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic product & easy to apply *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 30 June 2019* I bought this together with the Osmo wood protector & the results are fantastic, even for someone like me who has absolutely no expertise & has never attempted to restore a worktop before. First I sanded down my old & very misused oak kitchen worktop, then wiped & vacuumed the surface to ensure it was totally free from any dust. This preparation is really worthwhile even though I still couldn't remove one really deep scratch. Although the instructions say only 1 coat of the Osmo protector is needed, I applied 2 thin coats with a flat brush (my worktop needed this extra treatment). The liquid is runny so very easy to apply & it goes a long way. I then applied 2 coats of Osmo Top Oil - clear satin , also with a flat brush as I just find this easier to use than a lint free cloth for the final coat (as recommended in the instructions). Although I was a bit apprehensive about using a brush rather than a cloth for the final coat, I couldn't be more pleased with the result. The wood is certainly darkened by the treatment, but as it had become so dry & bleached looking before, the darker colour shows the grain properly & enhances the appearance of the worktop with a beautiful sheen. The scratch is still visible but the surface is smooth. As other reviewers have said, Osmo makes worktops look like new. This, in turn, enhances the overall appearance of the kitchen.
