HARDELL 12 Inch Digital Caliper Brings Large Format Precision to Shop Work and Layout Tasks
A 12 inch digital caliper fills a gap that standard 6 inch calipers simply cannot cover, and once you work with a project that requires measuring longer spans with precision you quickly realize why the larger format exists. The HARDELL 12 inch digital caliper has become one of my more regularly used measuring tools and it has performed with accuracy and reliability across a wide range of applications in my shop. The first thing you notice when you open the packaging is the length of this tool. A 12 inch caliper is a significant instrument and the HARDELL version is built proportionally with a sturdy stainless steel beam that feels rigid and well finished. The jaw faces are flat and parallel and the sliding jaw moves smoothly along the beam without any slop or binding. The fit and finish throughout the tool communicates a level of quality that is appropriate for precise measurement work. The thumbscrew lock holds the sliding jaw securely in place when you need to transfer a measurement or record a reading without the jaw drifting. The LCD display is a genuine selling point on this model. The screen is large enough to read comfortably without squinting and the digits are clearly formed and well backlit in low lighting conditions. Switching between inch and millimeter measurement modes is a single button press and the zero reset function allows you to zero out the caliper at any position, which is useful for taking incremental measurements or doing comparison work against a reference piece. The battery access is straightforward and the caliper uses a standard watch battery that is easy to replace when needed. In actual use the caliper delivers consistent readings that match what I expect when cross checking against other calibrated instruments. I have used it for measuring material stock thickness, checking lumber dimensions, verifying cut lengths on workpieces, and doing layout work where I need to step off a measurement from an edge. The outside jaw measurement, inside jaw measurement, depth rod, and step measurement functions all work correctly and the depth rod in particular is useful for measuring blind holes, slot depths, and recess dimensions that you cannot access with the outside jaws. The 12 inch range does introduce a small amount of flex when the caliper is fully extended that you would not see in a shorter instrument, which is a physics reality rather than a design flaw. For applications where you need maximum accuracy at full extension, supporting both ends of the beam gives you the best results. For most shop measurement tasks within the first 8 to 10 inches the caliper is rock solid. The carrying case included with the HARDELL protects the tool during storage and transport and is a better case than what you typically see with budget calipers. The auto off function preserves battery life during extended storage periods. For anyone who needs a digital caliper in the 12 inch range for shop work, layout, or fabrication projects, the HARDELL delivers genuine precision at a price point that makes it accessible without sacrificing the accuracy you actually need.

Works great
Bought this caliper for basic home projects and hobby work, and it’s been surprisingly accurate and easy to use. The large LCD screen is clear and easy to read, which makes measurements much quicker compared to older manual tools. It feels solid in the hand without being too heavy, and switching between inches and millimeters is simple. I’ve used it for measuring screws, small parts, and DIY projects, and the readings have been consistent so far.The included case is also a nice touch for storage and keeping it protected. Overall, a great value if you need an affordable digital caliper for everyday measuring tasks.

Excellent caliper accurate, solid build, very functional for 3D printing
I’m really impressed with this caliper. It feels very well made with durable materials not flimsy at all. It measures in mm, inches, and fractions, which is super useful depending on the project. The large digital display is easy to read, and it responds quickly and accurately. The zero button lets you reset at any position, which is great for relative measurements.Functionality-wise, it covers everything I need: inside, outside, depth, and step measurements — all smooth and precise. It came with two LR44 batteries, a sturdy hard case, and even a bonus stainless steel ruler marked in both cm and inches a really nice touch.I use it mainly for Fusion 360 design work, and the measurements have been spot-on with my 3D prints. I paid $30 USD, and they even gave me a discount coupon, which made it a real bargain for such a good-quality tool.If you're into 3D printing or any kind of precision work, this caliper is a great deal accurate, well-built, and affordable!

Nice all-around medium size calipers, screw attached battery cover
Before I retired, I've always used high end calipers in high production work, so we'll see how the Hardell's hold up. Only time will tell. They look good and appear to work well and they display in fractions too if you need that function (ie: 1/4, 3/32, 1/8, etc.).They will automatically turn ON when you move them. Not sure if I like that feature or not. As long as the auto-OFF works good then I suppose it doesn't really matter if you accidentally bump them and turn on.The battery cover attaches with 2 screws (a small Philips screwdriver is included). No more 'always break' battery covers! Even the covers on the higher end calipers would eventually break. Their covers usually slid/snapped into place and that little tab ALWAYS breaks off! The screws on these Hardell calipers are tiny and sorta hard for me to handle, but I've always had Sasquatch hands so I'm used to it. Just make sure you R&R the screws over the top of something you can catch them in if you drop them.I didn't have any 8" calipers; only 6" and 12". The 8" are nice for all around general use. Not too big or too small. I will give 4 stars for now and update after I've had a chance to abuse them in my shop for a while (sarc). :) .And there's currently a 20% coupon! Can't beat that!

A Solid, Precision Tool for Everyday and Laser-Engraving Use
I couldn’t be more pleased with this HARDELL 8-inch digital caliper—especially given how critical precise measurements are in my laser-engraving work. First impressions? It’s solidly built and pleasantly weighty, giving it that dependable, professional feel—yet not so heavy that it slows you down. You can handle it easily and quickly, sliding it into position without fumbling or fatigue. The accuracy is exceptional—exactly what I need when aligning materials for engraving (laser engraving goes by millimeters so it has to be dead-on). The clear and stable readouts mean I trust every fractional or millimeter measurement when lining up artwork or verifying depth and thickness. It’s reliable enough that I’ve recommended it to fellow makers and friends already—and everyone is equally impressed. What You’ll Love:Built like a tank, but easy to handle—just the right heft.Rock-solid measurement precision—no guesswork in positioning or alignment.Perfect for laser engraving—I use it daily to ensure every cut or etch on my laser engraver is spot-on.Highly recommended—I’ve already talked about this caliper to others and they ordered as well. They own other brands as well and were a bit surprised. If you're into precision crafting, 3D printing, machining, or any work where accuracy matters—especially laser engraving—this caliper is a no-brainer.

Great Value
For the price you can't beat it. Works better than I expected.
User
Good value for someone like me who only use it occasionally.
So far, so good. I like that it has metric, iso, and fraction displays. The screws for the battery compartment are tiny. It took some effort to get them back in after inserting the battery. I appreciate that an extra battery and a small screwdriver are included. The plastic case seems sturdy.
