I purchased this fuel gauge for my VW rail buggy. I had tried several different brands and types of gauges, but none of them worked as they should have. This gauge is by far the best one I have used. The gauge is nice, and heavy duty. It goes through a start-up check to make sure it is reading correctly. If I were to have any complaints, it would only be how the gauge readings change so quickly with the movement of the fuel in the tank. If you want to get a proper reading, it is best to be sitting flat and not moving. Otherwise, this is a great deal!!

Works great

The sensor appears well made mechanically, with a stainless-steel rod, magnetic float, and a simple reed-switch/resistor design that should be fairly durable. Installation and wiring are straightforward, and the included gauge does respond consistently as the float moves. The downside is that the level indication is inaccurate and non-linear. In my testing, the gauge could still read Empty when the actual water level was roughly 1/4 full, and it could show only 1/4 full when the level was approaching half full. It also reaches “Full” before the float reaches the actual full position. The sender itself provides only 6 discrete resistance levels over its travel, so the resolution is fairly coarse even before accounting for the non-linear gauge calibration. I also measured the sender directly with an ohmmeter and found an odd resistance transitions between level steps, where the resistance briefly jumps the wrong direction. The included gauge appears to filter this out, so it displays normally, but if you wanted to use the sender by itself in a DIY project with a microcontroller or analog input, the raw readings would require substantial clean up in software to produce a reliable level indication. Overall, it's okay for the money if you mainly need a rough Empty/Low/Half/Full indication. I would not recommend it if you need an accurate indication of the actual liquid level.

Good quality materials. Stainless steel sending unit means no corrosion or rust! Gasket was thick and well cut. The gage does read in increments, so it’s not a smooth steady needle as fuel level drops. It’s F, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, E. So it’s not going to show you 3/8 of a tank. But it’s perfect for what it is. An easy to install and use basic fuel gage with multiple colors for your gage face. I’m very happy with it.
