Great Carhartt cold temp hat
Great hat!! Not too hot but just right in the -10 degree weather, great soft feel! Length is a bit short in the back, stretchability is great, thickness is perfect, the color matches what was advertised, the weight is perfect as well like I said it’s not too hot and keeps you warm in cold temps!! The mask part is a great addition and can stay out of the way if you want to not wear it. Thanks Carhartt!!

Very nice, but a bit uncomfortable
Great for the snow and winter in general. It’s warm and great for the rain, snow, and wind. The main gripe i have with it is being able to wear the hat and the face cover at separate times. It’s not comfortable to leave the mask down below your chin. If you’re wearing both though, it’s perfect!

Detailed comparison of Carhartt gray winter hats
I tend to be fairly picky about my winter hats, living in New England and despising any part of my ears feeling cold. After doing a fair bit of research, it became clear that Carhartt hats were consistently the highest rated. From there, however, I had trouble distinguishing between the following 4 styles: Carhartt Men's Marshfield Wool Hat, Charcoal Heather, One Size Carhartt Men's Fleece 2-In-1 Headwear,Charcoal Heather,One Size - THIS REVIEW Carhartt Men's Akron Hat,Black,One Size Carhartt Men's Firesteel Hat, Charcoal Heather, One Size I decided to purchase all 4, keep the one I liked, and donate the others to charity. This review is specifically to compare these 4 hats in terms of style and warmth. First, an overview of the four and my overall ratings (1 worst, 5 best): Marshfield: 5 Style / 5 Warmth / Small Fit Fleece: 2 Style / 5 Warmth / Average Fit - THIS REVIEW Akron: 3 Style / 3 Warmth / Slightly Large Fit Firesteel: 3 Style / 2 Warmth / Slightly Large Fit For detailed reviews of the other styles, please see my reviews on those pages. Specifically regarding the Fleece... This hat was immediately a very comfortable fit. Not too tight or too loose, it wrapped perfectly around my head with the ear flaps settling properly below my ears and remaining flush against the back of my cheeks (an issue with both the Akron and Firesteel). The bonus with this hat, and what makes it especially valuable, is the pull-out face mask. It remains permanently attached to the interior of the hat (unobtrusive in terms of comfort and appearance) and pulls down to double as a quasi-balaclava. I am able to wear sunglasses underneath it without any bothersome pinch or disturbance of the coverage (note that nose breathing does steam up the glasses a bit with the face mask in place - breathe through your mouth or keep the mask tight to your nostrils). Additionally, unlike my previous winter hat, this particular hat seems to only minimally block hearing (treble sounds mostly transmit clearly). The inside of the hat is the same gray fleece as the exterior (no separate lining), which I find very soft, comfortable, and warm. The lack of separate lining might allow the hat to transmit moisture a bit more easily, but also keeps it fairly thin if worn underneath a waterproof hood. Stylistically, this hat is a fairly bland beanie hat. Style is obviously the more subjective part of my review, but this one doesn't do a ton for me. I'm by no means embarrassed to wear it, but I would categorize it more as functional than stylish. The gray is uniform and the fold-out mask is black. Because of its neutrality, it should go with just about any color jacket. In the end, the face mask made this hat worth as a backup option and especially for colder days where I might be digging out the car. I kept this hat, have worn it a few times, and plan to pull it out as alternative to my favorite of the bunch (the Marshfield). Definitely recommended if you're watching your budget or also find value in the utility of the face mask!

Just what I was looking for.
Great hat. Been looking for this model number. And was thrilled to find it...my husband has had one for a few years and wears it everyday in winter to take his morning walk. Great warm hat with face protector.

Excellent winter hat and mask combo, gotta love hats with earflaps in winter
After living in a snowy area for ~6 yrs, I quickly grew to prefer ushanka/"trapper hat" style winter hats- those flaps along the sides are a major help when the cold, biting wind is nipping at your ears. Recently, I've been living in a warmer area....but the winter is still kinda chilly, more so first thing in the morning and after the sun goes down (in other words, the two ends of the day I'm usually at work/outside for an extended period of time) and a "cheap hoodie and knit cap" combo just wasn't cutting it when the wind picked up... Then I found this Carhartt hat, and having heard great things about their winter wear/workwear over the years... buying this hat was a no-brainer, hah This hat is like an ushanka/trapper hat but without the excessive frills/decorative "fluffy" bit at the front (with the faux fur- or sometimes sherpa-fleece- inner lining being flipped outward along the forehead that those style of hats have) This has a similar warmth and comfortable fit, but with a more subtle/reasonable appearance. The extended bit on the sides over the ears is an invaluable help in the winter, the soft fleece is comfortable and cozy warm without being too tight....it's great~ Of course, that's just the hat itself- the attached mask is a great bonus, for sure. Admittedly, I haven't used the mask much myself, but....that's mostly because of where I work/security measures they have there (and also it's not quite "snowy cold" here usually- the hat on it's own without the mask does wonders for me lol) Sewn-in to the lining of the hat, the mask is not removable...but you can easily flip it inside the top of the hat if you don't want to use it ^-^ (second/third pic show the stitching binding the mask to the hat, and the mask flipped inside the hat) All in all, a little bit more than I would normally spend for a winter hat...but it has absolutely been worth it, especially being from Carhartt (and their high standard of quality) It's been a huge help on the way to or from/while at work every morning, as well as for those occasions I'm stuck working into the cold evening hours ^-^ PS: I originally ordered one in yellow, but when worn along with my high-vis coat... it was excessively bright, and felt like a hat-on-a-hat- no pun intended- so I exchanged it for this grey one. Still, good to know the yellow and orange ones MIGHT possibly meet workplace/ANSI standards for high-vis workwear ^-^ [not 100% sure on that since *it does not have reflector stripes, so take with a grain of salt*....but the yellow hat was VERY bright in person, identically bright to my (brand-new, not dimmed/deteriorated by washing cycles and general use) yellow high-vis coat- which is confirmed ANSI-rated/approved]

These are great if you work construction in cold weather. They will keep your face and head warm but don't interfere with the hardhat. I have owned them for years and they've never let me down. Paired with a hoodie you will be able to concur the cold.
