Bought for my wife after a "final straw savaging" from our brambles. These were so impressive, "out of the box" the quality is obvious, and while soft and supple, they really stop brambles penetrating completely. With many "wild" areas, our gardening often feels more like a pitched battle with brambles and Hawthorn, sufficiently "evil" to protect Sleeping Beauty & Brer Rabbit combined! These gloves coped easily first time out, preventing ANY penetration, even further up towards the wrist in a particularly lively "clearance" of a well established patch. These also have great "touch" for sensitive work and "breathe" well, avoiding the "sweaty" feel of plastic gauntlets. Having bought so many gloves claiming to be bramble proof, comfortable and long lasting, to find them thin, ill-fitting, uncomfortable with poor protection and wrecked in 5 minutes, I wondered before buying them if these would also end up in the "odd glove box" at the back of the shed. I'm delighted to report these still perform superbly months later, with my Wife's full seal of approval. Well worth the extra, these are "the real thing".

Replacement for a twenty year old pair which have finally worn through. Relatively expensive, but well worth the cost.

I've been using Gold Leaf Tough Touch Gloves for a number of years. For most of the garden/forest work that I do, these are by far the best gloves that I have found. What's so good about them? Well, they are comfortable, they are as close to thorn proof as you are likely to find without wrapping your hands in kevlar, and they are gauntlet style so you get protection beyond your wrist. From forestry work, I am still covered in scrapes on the upper part of my forearms, but as far as these gloves cover, I am scratch & scrape free. On the downside, they don't work so well in wet conditions, and the yellow colour ends up all over your hands if you do use them in the wet. They're also not much use for fine weeding and other delicate jobs. I tend to do heavy outside work, which involves felling and transporting trees (it sounds contrary, but it's for conservation purposes), hedge laying, etc, as well as more typical gardening activities. I use these Gold Leaf gloves for all of these activities, other than when I need to pop chainsaw gloves on for extra protection, or for when I need to do something where I know I will be operating in wet conditions. I even wear the Gold Leaf gloves when doing maintenance of chainsaws, brushcutters etc to protect my hands. When I recently did a 6 month course in land operations, many of the other students on the course tried my Gold Leaf gloves and vowed to buy their own, they were that impressed. My only wish is that it was possible to buy the gloves individually. Typical gardeners may find these gloves near indestructible, but I manage to get through two or three pairs per year (would be more if I did forestry full-time). The thing that I find goes is always the end of the finger tips on the right-hand, so at this point I have a pile of left-hand gloves that are still perfectly usable, but am just ordering more complete pairs to get some more right-hand gloves. Any left-handed gardeners out there with the equivalent problem - let me know! Very highly recommended, for anything but wet or very delicate jobs (or those requiring chainsaw protection).

I've been doing a lot of gardening recently including clearing large ares of brambles and nettles as well as normal weeding,edging and planting and I've found heavy duty rigger gloves OK but wear through the fingers very quickly. So I did some research and found these Gold Leag Tough Touch Gloves got good reviews so ordered a pair a month ago. They only seem to do two sizes, ladies or gents. My hand are average size and the gents size just fit but if you have large hands then these may not be large enough. They have large cuffs which make them ideal for dealing with nettles. The leather is soft and protects well from thorns but narrow thorns or spines will still get through to a certain extent and you wouldn't want to grab spiny plants to hard. However, despite this they are better than cheaper gloves. The leather is very soft but tough and the gloves are well made but I am disappointed that one of the finger tips has almost worn through in only a month so I'mnot convinced they are good value though they have protected my hands well. Despite my initial scepticism they lasted a season of gardening with a lot of bramble removal. When I assessed them after the gardening season they had given excellent service and finally two of the fingers became worn through the yellow leather. So the folllowing season I bought another pair which I have used for the last year and although a scuffed they are still working well. They remain soft, comfortable and effective and keep hands and wrists warm and well protected. When they eventually wear out I will replace them. It's a pity they are so expensive but you are getting a top quality.

These gardening gloves are so nice. I bought them for my husband. A friend of mine had them and said they protect the hands very well when pruning no thorns get through.

The product.description says that the gloves are made of deerskin, which I know is naturally water resistant, so I ordered a pair. They arrived yesterday, and the packaging informed me that the gloves are made of cow hide, not deer hide :( I have long fingers, so I ordered the "gent's" size. The finger length is perfect, but the palms and wrists are way big… and there's no means to tighten the cuff to prevent dirt or water from pouring in. Over all, I am more than disappointed. If they soak water like a sponge, I'll be sending them back.
