Topsy and Tim: The New Baby : Adamson, Jean, Worsley, Belinda: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Prepared our son for his baby brother and shows breastfeeding - It's early days but I think that this book has really helped prepare our son (almost 2 when the baby was born). It's aimed at slightly older children but we talked around the pictures a lot rather than just using the text from the book. I really liked that it showed breastfeeding as that could have been confusing for him. It also says that babies cry a lot because they can't say what they need with words and that message seems to have gone in. Also has a little puzzle at the end which our son likes Review: Great for preparing a toddler for a sibling! - An excellent book for introducing the idea of a new baby. We bought this while I was pregnant with our second child and it was really helpful in getting our first ready. Tony Welch has a baby brother and T and T go to visit him. The story covers lots of aspects of having a baby, bathing it, feeding it, even the way the mum talks to Tony about the baby liking his older brother. I particularly liked that the mum in the story breastfeeds so it allows you the chance to discuss that with your toddler. It’s a good length and a story that will last beyond the purpose of preparing our first child for her baby sister. I would definitely recommend this if you are getting a first child ready for a new sibling.

Highly recommended!
A brilliant story to read to a child who is about the gain a new sibling! My daughter already knew the Topsy and Tim characters well from reading other books in the series so this one was a useful addition as I am expecting my second child. I love the honest and simple way it explains about a new baby with hints in the pictures and text about extra conversations that you may need to have with your child (jealousy, breastfeeding, mummy being busier) Other books about new babies tend to be (in my opinion) too detailed about a baby growing or too abstract (house in my mummy) whereas this book is factual and also very sweet.

Great kids book
My four year old daughter loves the Topsy and Tim books, and she has been wanting this one for a while. She wasn't disappointed it, she really enjoyed it. The books are always true to life and informative. They always have little puzzles at the end which she likes.

A good simple story with lots of information
As in all Topsy and Tim books this is a good, simple story which appeals to all children. Beware you will end up reading it until you are heartily sick of the story but your child will still say 'again'! Although it is a friend's mum who is having a baby it covers issues like the baby using Tony's old cot and Topsy and Tim taking some of their outgrown clothes for the baby. It also covers reasons why a baby cries. I also liked the fact that the new baby gave Tony a present.

A good choice for first time big brothers and sisters
I bought this book for my son who is 3 and a half to help prepare him for the arrival of his new little brother and it is great because it covers everything from the baby in the Mummys tummy and getting the nursery ready to bathing, breastfeeding and being gentle when holding the new baby. The older brother also gets a bit jealous at one point which is a good talking point and there's a fun spot-the-toy game on the last page. I really liked reading it and my son liked the game at the end best!

Great to help toddlers understand
I bought this book to help my 2 year old that a baby was on that the way. When my bump was showing he understood it so much better and it includes breast feeding without making a fuss, which is great. We read it before bed when the baby was on the way and my husband read it to him after his little brother had arrived so he could continue to understand what was going on. I think this is brilliant along with the other topsy & Tim books.

The Topsy and Tim books are wonderful! The books focus on everyday things and activities in ways that children can relate. It also exposes and discusses things that might not have happened yet but very well could (e.g. going to the dentist, moving to a new house, etc.). For young children, fantasy books can be difficult because they are still working out what is and is not real. In this book, their friend's mom has a new baby; the children explore how families take care of a baby. My family in the UK sent us our first two and we've proceeded to acquire a whole set. Fair warning, the books are British, so if you were raised in America you'll see some new words such as trainers (running shoes), lorry (semi truck), nursery (pre-school), tea (a late afternoon snack / light meal), as well as alternate spells such as "mummy" and "centre". In this book specifically you'll see "nappy" (diaper).

The Topsy and Tim books have always been good and this one lands in the same category. The book is simple, the concept is sweet and the illustrations and language have a nice way of weaving a story about how Topsy and Tim go and see the little baby sibling of Tony Welsh. Children who know the characters in the Topsy-Tim series will enjoy it. My three and a half year old lil one enjoyed the book..
