SABRENT USB 3.2x1 (3.2 Gen 1) mSATA II or III/6G SSD Enclosure Adapter [Support UASP] (EC-UKMS)

Reasonably-priced USB caddy that holds mSATA SSD drives nicely. For the price it is solidly built and providing you insert the SSD card correctly (their is a right and wrong way to slide it in), it holds the card without rattling. Has worked perfectly with Lite-On 256GB and Samsung 500GB cards. Fast transfer speeds if using a USB 3 port and now that it has performed its original duty during a cloning / upgrade task on a laptop, it is now happy as a large capacity drive for portable use.

Can use this to clone an internal SSD when upgrading an old laptop, and then for rehoming the old SSD once the upgrade is complete. After installation, you end up with a pocketable USB drive that (depending on the capabilities of the installed SSD) is much faster than a standard USB stick. (I was getting 40MB/s.)

The case is very nicely made with a brushed black finish and well presented in its box. It's very easy to fit the mSATA drive into the case and a small screwdriver is included to let you finish the job. USB write speed is very good and I've seen 300MB/s with large files. But, ye gods, does it get hot! I don't think this is the fault of the case, just the way mSATA drives are, especially the larger ones, and I doubt any other case would do any better. (I dread to think what sort of temperatures the 1TB drive in my Ultrabook is getting to when stressed.) I've just swapped the 512GB drive for a 128GB and that runs much cooler so I'll have to decide whether that's enough and keep the 512GB for something else. This probably as good as an mSATA case gets but just be careful what capacity drive you put in it.

Fast enclosure

Does the job and does it well. 2 minor points, not worth taking a star off though: USB 3.0 cable, I would have preferred a shorter one and the unit does get quite warm in use.

Really handy piece of kit. Connections are good and the enclosure is nice and lightweight. It can be screwed together to make it into a memory stick if required.

Small and fast.

So... Delivered product was a Sabrent EC-UKMS A small, logo-less aluminium box with plastic ends (one vented) and no internal insulation - as expected. The circuit board is quite low quality/quality control - There's spots of glue on the board, metallic specs that I removed, the tracers don't look great in places and while I'm no expert, the solder looks spotty around the msata connector. Having said that, I've tried with two msata cards, both fit in nicely and there's no rattle once in place. I would have preferred to screw the SSDs down rather than sprung clips that again don't seem that great quality - You need a screwdriver (one is included) to get in to the enclosure, there's really no advantage in having clips inside. The micro USB 3 socket feels quite low quality and there's quite a bit of flex when using the supplied cable. Saying this, the device stays connected to the PC "while wiggling". The supplied USB 3 cable is about 80cm long, seems quite cheap but sufficient. It has no USB logo markings. The packaging itself has no mention of UASP unlike the amazon advert and specifically says SATA II (not III) The controller chip is physically an ASM1153E. Using Windows 10 Technical Preview 10240, Windows device manager is showing the connected device as an ASMedia 2115 SCSI disk drive. UAS is working correctly. Using a Samsung PM800 128GB mSATA (MZMPA128HMFU) which has been in use in a laptop and doing nothing other than plugging it in and a quick format to NTFS I got the attached performance using a laptop with an Intel USB host controller. I'm relatively happy with the results considering the price but haven't done enough research to know how good it really is performance-wise. The fact that UASP and SATA III isn't mentioned on the box is a little suspect? Potentially different chipsets etc with the same model? Hopefully I've supplied enough information for more clued up prospective buyers. I'm satisfied with the enclosure after using it for literally 10 minutes but I'm skeptical of the circuit board's quality and how long it would last (mainly the strain on plugging/removing the USB cable).

Él adaptador es de muy buena calidad, en mí opinión: Ventajas: El case es de metal. Soporta protocolo UASP. Funciona en Distros GNU/Linux. Cable de buena calidad. Tiene manual y desarmador. Desventajas: Solo he notado que se calienta mucho la case al formatear la SSD.

This little mSATA to USB reader worked well, is built well and shows the finishing touches of a class product. Sabrent included a tiny Phillips screwdriver for disassembling the shell, and included a spring loaded retainer to hold down the opposite end of the mSATA drive from the data/power connector. Extra case screws were also in the package. We have other Sabrent readers for drives and SD cards, all work very well and are very affordable. The only tiny quibble we have is a bit of wiggle room where the USB port attaches to the motherboard where the case has two metal pieces folded over to hold the case on. Some tiny dabs of RTV silicon fixed this problem.

Muy buen producto. Ha sido muy fácil conectar el disco de estado sólido e introducirlo en la carcasa para comenzar a copiar datos en él. La carcasa es metálica, de muy buena calidad y además tiene un LED de actividad (read/write) que pocos fabricantes implementas en ellas. ¡¡ El cable USB 3.0 incluido no puede ser de mejor calidad !! TODO PERFECTO.
