When young duck and goose find a large, multi-colored, spotted "egg," bickering ensues. "I saw it first," proclaims Duck. "I touched it first," smirks Goose, putting one webbed foot on the egg. As the argument continues, over whose egg it is, and who will keep it warm until it hatches, a small blue bird looks on. When the dust settles and feathers are unruffled, both Duck & Goose are atop the egg. As time passes, their arguments end, and they both begin to think of what they'll teach "their" little baby. "I'll teach it to quack like a duck," says Duck. "I'll teach it to honk like a goose," says Goose. "We'll teach it to fly," they both agree. And a tentative friendship is born. Until that same little blue bird flies down to ask to join in their fun--asks, in fact, if she can play with their ball. "Ball?" they ask. "Well, of course we knew it was a ball. We had our doubts all along!" This is a funny, delightful book with beautiful illustrations that any child can enjoy. A perfect bedtime story! Reviewed by: Jennifer Wardrip, aka "The Genius"

very true and very cute
My 2yr old son just loves this book, he thinks it's really funny that duck and goose think the football is an egg. The text is a little long in some places but i just shorten it for him. The pictures are large and bright and very expressive. It has a gentle subtle humour that helps for repetative reading. One of our favourites

I adore Duck and Goose books and own several. They deal with the important issues in a child's life. In this book they struggle with ownership of an "egg." There are many life lessons wrapped up in this adorable series and can lead to some important dialogue with children. I am soon to be 70, and I still appreciate the wit and wisdom in this delightful series. A grandparent's dream come true. A story that will engage and entertain and make an important contribution to a child's character.

We were introduced to the Duck&Goose series with the Duck&Goose Colors book, so when I found this one I bought it assuming this was the original. The story is really cute about how Duck & Goose meet and become friends over finding an “egg”, but it’s really a ball. This story is a bit longer so it doesn’t always grab my son’s attention for the whole book, but is only 14 months so that could be why! Haha.
