Brilliant piece of design and engineering.
Brilliant item, instructions are detailed on how to install and remove the product, I have installed this in a horizontal position on the edge of the dashboard to allow the phone to be viewable from all locations. As for the 4mm deep magnet for the back of the phone, it is unobtrusive and with the right tools (a drill and 22mm holesaw) the magnet can be fitted to the back of any phone and used with any aftermarket case. The magnet also comes in useful in the kitchen, where I can attach my phone to any metallic object and have it kept off the working surface whilst still being easily accessible.

Perfect just what I needed.
Great item Brought this for iPhone 5s and Is perfect for the job. The magnetic ball stuck down with ease onto the plastic trim on my dashboard. Luckily I had a inexpensive phone case which I was able to make a appropriate whole to stick down the magnet on the back of the phone. I was a bit worried about separating the magnets when I remove the phone and the sticky pad would come off the dash. But The magnet separate easy all you do is just slide your phone away without having to pull. Also it's very sturdy and the phone stays in the position you want to when driving. So to sum it up great phone holder just follow the instructions and you should be good.

Best mount I've ever seen or used...
Easily the most elegant car mounting solution I've ever dealt with. The plate attachment on the back of the phone isn't the most fetching accessory I've ever seen but you can't argue with the effectiveness and ease of use. Completely outclasses any suction cup, plastic grip mounts I've ever seen and I envisage it lasting a long time. Also the magnet on the back of the phone is great for sticking it to the fridge.

Steelie just works!
This is very elegant and simple solution to safely mount a phone in the car. In fact, we have two Steelies, one for each car. The only concern is not to damage credit cards with the magnet on the back of the phone, but so far, so good.

Greta idea but not sticky enough
Great idea but the sticky pad is not sticky enough. I had to superglue mine on. Once that's sorted, it's GREAT!

Quality product - I bought this in 2014!!!
I bought this in 2014 and the magnet remains on both my dashboard and my phone in 2021 - i love it. It works exactly like when I bought it, and since it's round it attaches comfortably, and can be twisted and moved to sit any way. Can't recommend this one enough - great buy.

Too expensive, but does the job!
This product should be cheaper to buy, but its registered trademarked 3M VHB adhesive remains well stuck to my car's dashboard and I am well satisfied - so far.

Great for portrait, but not so great for landscape...
I bought this for an iPhone 6 Plus, together with a skinny case [from a different supplier] so I didn't have to stick the back magnet to my phone directly. I had no issues getting either the dashboard mount or the phone mount to stick, as long as you use the included alcohol wipe sparingly, and dry the surfaces with a tissue, it grips just fine. How long this adhesion will last, time will tell but if it fails, I will come back and edit this post. I actually placed the phone mount off-centre - slightly nearer the top of the phone than the bottom, just so as I place the phone down on a surface, it sits facing me at an angle, rather than pivoting on the magnet if mounted in the dead centre. This proved to be a mistake, as the iPhone 6 plus is sufficiently large that when I try to turn the phone into landscape on the dash mount, it falls back down into portrait, or at least, halfway between portrait and landscape, as the magnets are not quite powerful enough to grip it firmly. There is a rubber plate inset into the phone magnet; I assumed this was to prevent rotation when the phone is set on the dash mount, but it doesn't seem to work. Offering up the iPhone to the car dash mount is great, it springs onto the magnet and never falls off - it just won't stay in landscape as the magnets are "not-quite-strong-enough". Overall, a bit disappointed. This wasn't a serious investment at the price, but it wasn't cheap either considering all you get is two magnets and an alcohol wipe. I did expect the magnets to be stronger, and prevent any movement once set in position, but I was wrong. In portrait mode, it's 100% fine, but I do like to use my sat-nav app in landscape and the magnets are just not strong enough to hold the phone stable when in landscape. I do wish they had provided spare adhesive pads in the pack, so I could try moving the phone magnet to dead centre to see if this makes a difference to the landscape setting, but they don't which seems a little mean, especially as you have to get it right first time. i would recommend using a cheap phone skin to attach the phone magnet to, rather than the phone itself, as its not that small, and could annoy you after a while; this way you can take it off attached to the skin if it really gets on your nerves. So overall excellent in portrait, not good in landscape, no spare pads and not great value for money. But if you are looking for a small, unobtrusive and versatile dashboard mount, and can accept the magnet attached to the back of your phone, it's the best I have used.

Magnet slips on the metal sphere. High price and Useless.

Nice product, feels of solid quality, strong magnets, uses strong 3M adhesive, and working great so far. Depending oh how your dashboard is shaped, phone position and flexibility can be limited. Thanks.

Well-made, strong magnet. Phone may slide down depending on how unit’s mounted and the weight of the phone. Would purchase again (but on sale!).
